(SPEEDWAY 1 - SUNDAY REVIEW)
GLASGOW moved level on points with third-placed Somerset with a 58-34 win over Berwick in the Premier League on Sunday. The Tigers dominated at Ashfield with top home trio Richard Lawson, Aaron Summers and guest Josh Grajczonek all in double figures, Lawson scoring 15+2 from six rides. The Bandits were limited to two heat advantages with Thomas Jorgensen picking up 11.Lawson said: “I'm enjoying it - everything seems to be going well. We've got a good team spirit here. Unfortunately we've not got all seven riders but we're still winning matches, that's the main thing.“It does affect us in one respect but you've just got to get on with it - it'll be better when we have seven.”Newcastle were comfortable 60-33 winners over Scunthorpe at Brough Park with Lewis Kerr scoring a 15-point maximum for the home side whilst Ludvig Lindgren collected 13+1.Diamonds boss George English said: "I was very pleased with how the team performed tonight, we were solid throughout and Lewis Kerr was superb.“I was happy with how (Tero) Aarnio fitted in and we are looking forward to watching how he gets on in the next few weeks. We had been looking at bringing Tero on for a weeks and the unfortunate injury to Lewis Rose has enabled us to make the change now, but we of course still have the option to bring Lewis back into the side.” Scunthorpe boss Dave Peet said: “The one positive is that we rode much better at Newcastle this time around than in the cup match a few weeks ago. Theo Pijper had a good night.“Newcastle are strong around their home track, while it didn't help us that we were without both our usual reserves, although both Arthur Sissis and Rafal Konopka both tried hard.”In the City Gearboxes National League, Eastbourne raced to a 56-36 win over Coventry with both Bradley Wilson-Dean and home debutant Ben Hopwood scoring 15-point maximums. The Eagles did, however, lose reserve Georgie Wood in a Heat 5 crash from which shoulder ligament damage is feared.Boss Glenn Martin said: “Ben Hopwood was superb - a really brilliant performance. It was a good team performance and it was nice to see Niall Strudwick come in and he took a point in his only ride.”Coventry manager Laurence Rogers said: “When we went 10-2 down after two races I thought we were really in trouble, but credit to the boys because they did bounce back.“Rider replacement (for Luke Crang) only got us four paid five, and we also had two reserves who were thrown in at the deep end at the last moment so we only got one point from there.”Buxton established a 12-point lead over King’s Lynn in the first leg of their Knockout Cup tie with a 51-39 win over the Young Stars at the Hi-Edge Raceway.Home reserve Dale Lamb suffered a suspected broken scaphoid in a Heat 4 crash but Tom Woolley was unbeaten from five rides for the home side - although he was unable to take his place in the re-run of Heat 15 after a crash in the first staging.Buxton boss Jason Pipe said: “After ten heats we were 16 points up, looking at a 20-plus lead to take to East Anglia which would have made it much easier to progress to the next round. King’s Lynn came on stronger and came out on top in the final third of the meeting.“Tom was magnificent and fully deserved his inclusion in Heat 15 – I fancied him to win it from gate 1 and had it not been for that second bend incident I’m confident he would have added to his total.”In the National Trophy, group winners Rye House were emphatic 56-33 winners at Mildenhall with Rob Branford scoring a 15-point maximum on his return from injury.(SPEEDWAY 2 - MONDAY PREVIEW)
POOLE promoter Matt Ford is calling on his side to close the gap on Elite League leaders Coventry with a win at Wolverhampton on Monday. The Pirates trail the Bees by seven points and their two matches in hand come up against Wolves at Monmore Green tonight and then at Wimborne Road on Wednesday.Poole have named a full-strength team whilst Wolves bring in Adam Roynon at reserve as Lewis Blackbird is currently ruled out.Ford said: “Without a doubt this is a must win match for us and we must maximise our points this week when we take on the Wolves home and away. I acknowledge that it won't be easy, despite the statistics shaping up firmly in our favour, for I know that the Wolves promotion will be demanding better from their riders. “We have had quite a good record on the road to-date but to be honest I will not be happy with any consolations on Monday. If we are realistically going to close the gap on Coventry then we need to begin now and that means being strong in all quarters, and I won't be smiling unless we are returning to Poole with three points at least under our belts.”Wolves boss Peter Adams said: “It’s obviously going to be a difficult one for us as Poole are powerful everywhere they go. It’s an important meeting for us because we’ve lost a lot of matches on the trot and confidence is low, but we need to get back on track.“We beat Poole comfortably when they came to Monmore earlier on in the season, we were in very good form at that time and the roles are reversed somewhat on this occasion.”Meanwhile Belle Vue host King’s Lynn at Kirkmanshulme Lane knowing at least a point against the third-placed team will take them back into the play-off places. The Aces have their full side on track as they look to catch up on home fixtures, whilst Kyle Howarth guests for the injured Robert Lambert for the Stars.Belle Vue skipper Scott Nicholls said: “First and foremost we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed for some good weather, and assuming lady luck smiles at us we’ll be looking to take the win by as many points as possible!“On paper both sides are evenly matched but I believe, like for like, we’re the stronger on our home track. It’s a big night for us, no doubt, and we fully intend to take it to the max. It’s that simple.”Kent welcome back former skipper Simon Lambert as he attempts to make it a hat-trick of Laurels titles in the annual Individual event at Central Park.Lambert, who rode for the Kings last year but no longer competes at National League level, is expected to face tough competition from some of the outstanding visitors to the venue including Bradley Wilson-Dean and Dan Greenwood.

SIDELINED Peterborough and Wolverhampton star Lewis Blackbird could become closer to learning the cause of his serious discomfort today (Monday). The 28 year-old has an appointment with a back specialist in London to try to get to the bottom of the pain being suffered since a crash almost two months ago.Panthers promoter Ged Rathbone said: “Lewis is going to London to have some work done on his back.“He is still in the process of trying to establish the root of the pain and hopefully this will help him. It is a waiting game for us at the moment, but we are not going to put Lewis under any pressure to return until he feels right.”

AFTER a seven-week break the Mitas British Youth Championship returns for Round 4 of 6 at Rye House on Sunday July 26 (5pm).42 riders will be competing at Hoddesdon, which means 42 qualifying races across the four classes 500cc, 250cc, 150cc and 125cc, and then a Final for each class, making it a total of 46 races on Sunday afternoon. In the 500cc class, it looks like a mammoth effort now for anyone to stop 14 year old Jack Parkinson from claiming his first British Championship, as he has been the clear winner of the first three rounds with a maximum score of 54 points to date, and his only defeat in any of his races thus far this season came at Eastbourne when he stopped with an engine failure whilst leading the race. The race for the rostrum places is certainly on though as Coventry Storm rider Jamie Halder along with 14 year old Lewis Whitmore are currently both on 44 points, former Rye House mascot Macauley Leek is on 35, and William O’Keefe and Jack Thomas are only a few points behind Leek. The most open class of 2015 series is the 250cc and this title is most definitely up for grabs with no less than only four points separating the top three in this class. With Tom Brennan, Kyle Bickley and Kean Dicken each winning one of the first three rounds, it’s anyone’s shout who will finish top of the podium in this class come the end of the series. The two support classes of 150cc and 125cc both have a good attendance again and with the winners of the previous three rounds all competing - Joylon West and Jason Edwards (150cc) and the Thompson Twins Dan and Joe (125cc) - this is sure to be exciting to watch. In the 125cc newly crowned British Champion Joe Thompson will be out to continue his success but sure his twin Dan, and Harry McGurk who was very unfortunate not to be take the title at Peterborough recently, will have something to say about that. So all in all another exciting afternoon of British Youth Speedway, and if you can make it down to the Hertfordshire venue you will not be disappointed. As always our thanks to our series sponsors:Mitas Tyres, Wessex Marine, Friends of Speedway, PBHS of Barnsley, NSSC, Duck Smart and Trend Creative, also our thanks to the BSPA for their continued support.
