Mikkel Michelsen handed Kjrgaard Danish FIM Speedway GP wild card

Joint FIM Speedway Under-21 World Championship leader Mikkel Michelsen has been handed a dream World Championship debut in the Kjærgaard Danish FIM Speedway Grand Prix at Horsens on August 8.

The in-form 20-year-old lines up in the No.16 race jacket as the CASA Arena Horsens hosts the sport’s top riders for the first time.

Triple world champion Nicki Pedersen, three-time national champion Niels-Kristian Iversen, Michael Jepsen Jensen and Peter Kildemand, who replaces the injured Jaroslaw Hampel, also fly the Danish flag, and will be determined to send the home fans wild.

Michelsen goes into the meeting in sublime form after winning the opening round of the FIM Speedway Under-21 World Championship Final on Saturday. He defeated Polish international Bartosz Zmarzlik in a run-off for top spot after they tied on 14 points.

He maintained that form in the Swedish Elitserien on Tuesday, piling up a sensational 17 points for Smederna.

The Nykobing-born man also races for Slangerup in the Danish Speedway League and Ostrow in the Polish First Division.

Former Danish Under-21 champion Michelsen is joined in the Horsens event by fellow World Under-21 finalists Nicolaj Busk Jakobsen and Anders Thomsen, who line up as track reserves. Jakobsen dons the No.17 race jacket, while Thomsen is No.18.

The referee in Horsens is Jim Lawrence from Great Britain.
