KCMG claims 2015 Asian Formula Renault Series crown in Shanghai

KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG) added another championship title to its growing list of achievements after wrapping up Asian Formula Renault Series’ finale at Shanghai International Circuit with victory. KCMG driver Dan Wells’ tenth back to back victory helped the Hong Kong-based squad clinch the Team championship trophy, while the British driver was ultimately crowned AFR’s 2015 champion.

Wells’ dominant performance was underlined by two pole positions, fastest laps and victories in the Asian series’ Rounds 11 and 12 over the weekend. The 23-year-old driver topped all sessions before the start of Official Practice on Saturday and went on to secure pole position. Wells concluded both races with a huge advantage over his opponents, clearly demonstrating his dominance in the championship.

KCMG novice Allan Lee joined Wells at Shanghai to fill in for Garnet Patterson in the series’ season finale. The Hong Kong Chinese driver finished both races in fourteenth place, completing a constructive maiden Asian Formula Renault outing. Despite Patterson’s absence in championship’s final event, the Australian driver still finished second overall in the season, making it a 1-2 overall victory for Hong Kong’s leading motorsport outfit.

Dan Wells: "It has been another fantastic weekend with the BlackArts Racing by KCMG team. I want to say a big thank you to my engineer Maarten de Busser, driver coach Gary Thompson and team manager John O'Hara for giving me such great support all year long, Bill O'Brien and everyone at BlackArts Racing for the support, and also to Paul Ip of KCMG for the opportunity to win the drivers and team's Championship. It really has been a very special year."

Gary Thompson, AFR Team Manager: “We are happy to take the team and drivers championship title in our maiden season in Asian Formula Renault. Both Dan and Garnet have done good job and I congratulate them. Lastly, I also would like to commend our crew who have worked tirelessly throughout the year and we thank everyone who supported us in this campaign.”
