WTCC: Tiago Monteiro aiming for victory in Slovakia

After an excellent start to the season in France two weeks ago, Tiago Monteiro is preparing for the second round of the 2016 WTCC this coming weekend, April 16 and 17, with a visit to Slovakia. Fully aware of his Honda Civic's potential, the Portuguese driver is confident that he can be in the fight for victories once again and be one of the early title contenders.

Occupying second place in the Championship and on a circuit where he has been successful in the past, Tiago is confident that by maintaining the same level of performance, the win could be a reality: "The first race of the year clearly showed that our car has finally reached the level that we all wanted. Now it is important to continue to work hard so that the performance levels are consistent. Our opponents will not give us any leeway and we must be prepared for them to fight," he said.

The layout of the Slovakian circuit is extremely technical and demanding but Tiago is not intimidated by it. "I adapt myself well to this type of circuit. It is very demanding, long and bumpy, a track where it is easy to make mistakes so it's important to be fast yet cautious at the same time. Qualifying continues to play an important role, the further to the front we are, the better the end result. The important thing is that we are aware of the work we need to do and the way we have to do it to get results."

Eurosport will broadcast both races live on Sunday at 11h and 13h.
