 RM Sotheby's report record sales as 1937 Bugatti Type 57S sells for $7,700,00 at Amelia

This weekend’s Amelia Island sale saw a new record for total sales in Amelia Island history, at $70.9 million in sales with 90 percent of all lots sold. A new benchmark for an Amelia Island auction, the impressive total comfortably exceeds the combined total of all the other auctions held during this year’s Amelia weekend, again placing RM Sotheby’s at the forefront of the collector car auction world.

Extended to two days with the addition of Friday’s exclusive presentation of “A Gentleman’s Collection: The Pride & Passion of Orin Smith,” the 2017 Amelia Island sale saw numerous highlights.

From the collection of Orin Smith, we saw the Lancia Astura Cabriolet Series III "Tipo Boca bring home top honors at $2,145,000, followed by the Aston Martin Short-Chassis Volante at $2,145,000. Saturday’s sale saw the Bugatti Type 57S Cabriolet bring the highest total for the weekend at $7,700,000, followed by the Ferrari F50 at $2,640,0 00.
