Now in its second year Jarama-Classic has become a not-to-be-missed rendezvous on the Peter Auto historic race calendar. The event looks like it has a great future as proved by the 10 000 spectators who flocked to the circuit this weekend.

What better destination than Spain to kick off the 2017 season? The blazing sun that smiled on the Spanish capital put an end to the winter break that lasted almost six months. With eight grids, 12 races and 188 cars on the track, all the ingredients were in place to confirm the success of the promising first staging. Job done! Jarama-Classic organised by Peter Auto thanks to the intervention of the Royal Spanish Automobile Club, was given a unanimous thumbs up by the drivers and the 10 000 spectators who turned up to celebrate the revival of a history-packed circuit.

As is the case at the start of every season some cars that have acquired new owners or been restored boosted the grids like an ex-works Porsche 917 entered in CER 1, a rare Shelby Daytona Cobra in Sixties’ Endurance and a Toyota 92 CV in Group C Racing.

Another rare appearance was that of the Legends Trophy which, after Pau and Dijon, raced in exclusivity this weekend at Jarama. It’s worth noting that it is the only time this year that these pre-war cars (Type 35 Bugattis, 8C Alfa Romeos and BMW 328S) will be seen at a Peter Auto event.

The contenders in the regular Peter Auto grids will meet up again on 18-19-20 May in Belgium for the seventh Spa-Classic. In the meantime, historic racing enthusiasts have the Tour Auto Optic 2ooo in France, which is being run for the 26th time from 24th to 30th April, to look forward to!

Patrick Peter (organiser): "The crowd came back which confirms the interest of people in Madrid in this meeting. There’s a determination to move forward as confirmed by the tower inaugurated in 2015, the Dunlop footbridge installed this year and the garages which will soon be revamped. On our side, we’ve got some great newcomers, collectors who are kind enough to bring beautiful cars. And there’s more to come! At Spa we’re launching the Euro F2 Classic, a new grid for quick, agile single-seaters – spectacular cars in other words! We’ll have around twenty this year and we can’t wait to see them in action for the first time!”
