Lando Norris focussed on Euro F3 success on Zandvoort debut

Lando Norris heads to Zandvoort next weekend (19-20 Aug) aiming to overhaul current FIA Formula 3 European Championship leader Maximilian Günther. Norris, who qualified on pole-position for all three races and scored two wins at Spa-Francorchamps (B) last month, trails the German by 18-points with a maximum of 75pts up for grabs over the weekend.

The 17-year-old McLaren-Honda Young Driver has now amassed five race wins, more than any other driver this season, and while Lando has no previous race experience on the 2.68-mile coastal track in the Netherlands, he is hungry for further success. Since the last Euro F3 race at Spa, Norris had an impressive first test in a current Formula 1 car with McLaren earlier this month (2 Aug), setting the second fastest time behind championship leader Sebastian Vettel’s Ferrari at the Hungaroring.

Norris will line-up his Carlin prepared Dallara-Volkswagen for Race 1 on Saturday (10.45am local) with the BRDC SuperStar contesting two races the following day (11.05am/4.55pm).

“I’m really looking forward to Zandvoort. It’s a track I’ve not been to before. From what I understand it’s a fun place but also a difficult circuit where qualifying is ultra-important as it’s not the easiest place to overtake on. We’ve had the pace every weekend this year, Carlin has always given me a great competitive car but I’ve made too many mistakes in the first half of the championship – especially poor race starts. My starts were much, much better at the last event at Spa so there is no reason why I cannot challenge for the title for the remainder of the season. Carlin has previously had success there so it should be a good weekend. My aim, as always, is to go for outright wins rather than settle for a lower position just to score points though.”
