Synchro Motorsport on top of the podium in Barcelona Creventic 24H A3

Synchro Motorsport, the voluntary race team based at Honda’s Swindon factory, took the chequered flag in Barcelona to claim their first international championship title.

The factory outfit returned to the UK crowned the Creventic 24H A3 class champions after claiming their second race win of the year in the endurance series. In addition, the three Synchro drivers Alyn James, Dan Wheeler and Martin Byford claimed the Drivers Championship in their class.

Alyn James, Driver and Team Principal of Synchro Motorsport, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for everyone involved in Synchro Motorsport. The hard work demonstrated throughout the year by all our Honda of the UK manufacturing associates has paid off. We consistently see developments in our abilities and our accomplishments, something that everyone in the team should be very proud of.”

The team of volunteers qualified first in class after demonstrating consistent speed throughout the circuit. The race started under the midday sun in front of a large crowd that were making the most of the 25 degrees Celsius heat and clear skies.

Within the first seven hours of the race, Synchro had moved from 27th to 17th place overall, the eventual position after multiple battles with cars in superior classes.

The Honda Civic Type R, comprised of 85% standard parts, completed 598 laps of the 4.655km Circuit de Catalunya leaving a resounding 18-lap gap between its nearest rival.

Robin Tremblin, Team manager of Synchro Motorsport, added: “The 24-hour long format of this competition is the perfect platform for us to demonstrate both the performance and the reliability of the Civic Type R. We made less pit stops than any of the other 40 teams on the grid, showing just how durable the Type R is.”
