Subtle upgrades offering an improved driving experience
Exceptional standard of restoration in a stunning colour combination
Offered here is a beautifully restored, matching numbers, XK140 Special Equipment, that was dispatched to the Jaguar Distributor, Hoffman of New York USA in May 1955. The JDHT Certificate shows that it was delivered new to R.S.Scholes of Brooklyn in MC specification which included a C-Type cylinder head. The history file contains a full photographic record of an earlier restoration when the original colour of Cream was changed. The Jaguar was imported into Germany in February 2010 and the history file contains the Import Document in the name of Mr Alexander Krahe. He set about another restoration involving renowned Jaguar specialists Twyford Motors with invoices totalling approximately £40.000.

The work involved retrimming the interior in Jaguar Red leather, the original colour, and applying new Burr Walnut veneers to the dashboard and door cappings. Finished in Gloss Black, the paintwork still retains a deep shine, and the period correct 72 spoke wire wheels were re-finished in black  A new black mohair hood and wood surrounds were also fitted. This car features twin SU H8 2 carburettors and the optional factory-fitted C-Type cylinder head, resulting in a very healthy 210 bhp @ 5,750 rpm. It's believed that just 151 cars were built to this specification.

Obviously, with a brief to make this XK a driver's dream, a lot of subtle modifications were made to enhance the driving experience. A power-assisted steering conversion was fitted, disc brakes to the front with a servo, alternator, electronic ignition, uprated heater, seat belts, manual choke, and adjustable dampers. With a ‘nod’ to modernity and our need to remain in communication at all times, a concealed socket for Sat Nav and a radio/cd player with an I-pod port were installed. Uprated suspension bushes and a stiffer front anti-roll bar are fitted. There is also a battery conditioner socket to make charging a simple exercise.

The modifications to this stunning drophead have been carefully and sympathetically applied to make driving and touring a real experience. The colour combination is truly special and the overall condition certainly makes this one of the best XK140s available in the marketplace …. Alpine Tour anyone?
