Enzo Fittipaldi was crowned Italian F4 champion this weekend at Mugello and Gianluca Petecof took his first single-seater win in the final round

Thanks to three pole positions and two wins, Enzo Fittipaldi took the Italian Formula 4 title. The 17 year old Brazilian was on fire at Mugello over the weekend, mastering all conditions from dry to wet.

“I think it was a very good weekend,” commented a delighted Fittipaldi. “Once I got behind the wheel, the pressure of the final dash for the title lifted and we managed to do well in qualifying, taking three poles. Unfortunately, in Race 1, I was knocked out by another driver, but in the two following races, there were no problems and we won both of them. The win in race 2 was particularly gratifying, because the rain had made the track particularly treacherous.

“It’s been an exciting season,” he continued. “We had the opportunity to progress and the results on track reflected the great job we did. The Ferrari Driver Academy and the Prema team guided me through it and the progress was clear to see race after race and that’s why I regard this achievement as a win for the whole team. I’d add that this year has also been good fun, working with a group of guys who gave me the warmest of welcomes.”

Over the course of the season, Fittipaldi took nine poles, seven wins and 12 podium places all together. There was further success for the FDA over the Mugello weekend, as it saw Gianluca Petecof taking his first win in the category in race 1. It came at the end of a very hard fought debut year in single-seaters, during which time he made continuous progress, which saw him also finish on the podium in the other two races at Mugello. This sgrong showing at the final round means Petecof ends the season fourth overall in the classification.

“I’d been hoping for it and in the end, I got the win,” commented Petecof. “I’m especially pleased with the way the season went, because I was the only rookie to take a race win. I would like to congratulate Enzo for what he achieved and I enjoyed being on the podium with him after race 3, which was monopolised by Prema team drivers. It was a very nice way of ending such a hard fought and satisfying season.”
