VSR make 2019 Blancpain GT return with Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Ev

Vincenzo Sospiri Racing will compete in Blancpain GT World Challenge Asia this season after confirming its championship return with a Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo.

The Italian team finished runners-up in the same championship’s Am drivers’ standings in 2017 when it was known as Blancpain GT Series Asia, and also claimed an outright pole position. Both of those feats were achieved with the first-generation Huracan, which has now been replaced by a revised Evo-spec version available to customers for the first time this year.

VSR is also switching to the Pro/Am class having previously fielded Silver and Am Cup entries. Both drivers will be announced in due course.

Its Blancpain GT World Challenge Asia entry is part of a wider regional programme that’s also expected to include Super Trofeo Asia. Lamborghini’s one-make championship will support Blancpain GT World Challenge Asia at five of this year’s six rounds.

Indeed, VSR has already enjoyed much success with the Italian manufacturer courtesy of four Super Trofeo Europe titles in the last three years and 2018’s GT Open Am title.

Team owner Vincenzo Sospiri said: “It’s great to be back racing in Asia again and to be working with SRO in their very competitive championship. We will be running a car in Pro/Am this time and our drivers will be announced shortly. We also plan to race in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia championship, which supports Blancpain GT World Challenge Asia at five of the six rounds. The whole team is looking forward to a successful season.”

VSR’s Lamborghini is the second Huracan GT3 Evo to be confirmed for the upcoming campaign following AMAC Motorsport’s pre-Christmas announcement. They join the likes of Absolute Racing’s Evo-spec Audis, Craft-Bamboo’s Mercedes-AMGs and ARN Racing’s new-for-2019 Porsche on the list of GT3 entries revealed so far.

Further GT3 and GT4 entries will be unveiled shortly.

Blancpain GT World Challenge Asia stages its opening round at Sepang in Malaysia on April 6/7.
