Fortec Motorsports has confirmed versatile American racer Kris Wright as the team’s first driver for the 2019 BRDC British F3 Championship.
The 24-year-old joins the series with strong recent experience in a range of categories including sports-cars, prototypes and single seaters, and was a podium finisher in the LMP2 class of this year’s Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona in January.
At the wheel of an Oreca 07, Wright and his three team mates were second in class, adding to his sports car experience that includes being crowned champion of the IMSA Prototype Challenge in 2018, with two wins and four additional podiums from the six races, as well as two pole positions.
After several years of sports car and saloon racing, including two seasons of the Pirelli World Challenge driving a Kia Forte Koup, and a sole campaign in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge in a Porsche Cayman, Wright’s first single-seater experience came in 2017.
Typically, it was a busy year for the American, as he contested seven races in the Pro Mazda Championship, and six races in USF2000, while also finishing second overall in the IMSA Prototype Challenge in an Elan DP02.
Continuing his trend for racing across multiple disciplines, Wright returned to Pro Mazda in 2018 for 10 races, a further 10 races in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany and his title-winning campaign in the IMSA Prototype Challenge, driving an LMP3 Ligier JS P3.
Now gearing up for his debut European single-seater campaign, Wright commented: “I'm really excited to drive in British F3, it’s the best school for drivers.
“Working with Fortec has been great during the testing I did end of last year, they are very professional and have the alumni to back them up. I’m eager to get started and see how the single seater racing goes in Europe, in comparison to the other racing I’ve done so far.
“With no previous experience of racing in the UK, I’m really looking forward to starting testing to learn the circuits, and work with my teammates.”
Fortec’s BRDC British F3 Team Manager Russell Dixon added: "We are delighted to have Kris as part of the Fortec BRDC British F3 team for 2019. He did a few test days at the end of last year and immediately felt comfortable in the car and with the team. He showed good pace and a strong desire to learn and improve so we are looking forward to a successful year."
