Porsche scores double GTM victory in Sepang Thailand Super Series opener

as the new Porsche Sprint Trophy Thailand launches

The Porsche 911 GT3 Cup dominated the GTM class of the 2019 Thailand Super Series season opener in Sepang, while the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport (981) scored two podium finishes in the GTC category, as the Porsche Sprint Trophy Thailand debuted.

The Earl Bamber Motorsport / B-Quik Racing Team scored a 1-2 finish with the #11 car, driven by Porsche Carrera Cup Asia pair Antares Au and John Curran, heading the #12 Silver-grade duo of Daniel Storkersen and Ahmad F. Alam.

Arrows Racing nabbed the final podium spot with Adrian Henry D’Silva in both races, beating Suttiluck Buncharoen in the True Vision Motorsports car in race one.

The Sathienthirakul brothers Munkong and 2019 Blancpain GT World Challenge Asia Sepang race-winner Tanart did not make the finish in race one but more than made up for it on Sunday, with victory in the GTM class as well as the Porsche Sprint Trophy Thailand for est Cola PTT Racing Team.

That meant the Porsche 991 GT3 Cup locked out at least the top four in both GTM races.

Chayapon Yotha in the Morseng Racing team in the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport (981) scored a comfortable second in the first GTC race, but led the initial stages of the second and put in a strong challenge for the victory before coming away with another podium, winning both Porsche Sprint Trophy Thailand GT4 races.

Reigning Cayman GT4 Trophy Thailand champions AAS Motorsport scored a pair of fourth and fifth-place finishes in GTC, with TCR Thailand convert Nattachak Hanjitkasem leading Pasu Liptapanlop in race one, but it was the latter who fought for the podium in race two.

Ian Ross Geekie’s EBM / B-Quik Racing Team Porsche 997 Cup car was sixth in both races, running a similar pace to the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport challengers.

Alexandre Gibot, Head of Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific, said: “It’s been a successful first weekend of the 2019 Thailand Super Series in Sepang, where the Porsche Sprint Trophy Thailand also made its debut. Our customers showed great pace with two victories in GTM and two podiums in GTC. We are also very excited to see the Porsche Sprint Trophy Thailand kick off with very competitive cars and we’re excited for the second round in Buriram.”
