Jamie Chadwick scored a finely judged victory at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, on Italy’s Adriatic coast, on Saturday, 8th June, to further extend her lead in the W Series Championship to 13 points and register her second win from three races.

Chadwick, who was recently announced as a Williams F1 Development Driver, started the race second on the grid and an absolutely blistering start rocketed her into the lead before the first corner. 

Fortunately, Chadwick’s well-judged start ensured she remained clear of drama behind which resulted in compatriot Alice Powell’s car being launched into the air into the first corner. At the front, Chadwick headed Beitske Visser in second and Fabienne Wohlwend in third and all three pulled away, with Visser maintaining pressure throughout the race.

Despite a fierce battle for the lead, though, Bath-based Chadwick defended with a maturity and finesse that belied her young age and, although having the benefit of the tow and getting under Chadwick’s gearbox several times, Visser was never able to convert the threat into an overtake. Chadwick eventually took the chequered flag with a 0.6 second winning margin.

 
Jamie said: “After Zolder, when I didn’t convert pole position into a lap one lead, I was determined to get the best possible start here at Misano.

“I knew there would be an opportunity down the inside, so I was really focused on getting that absolutely right, and it went to plan. After that I felt I had good pace, but Beitske kept me honest the whole way. She was always very close, but I felt in command so long as I avoided any unforced errors.

“And, fortunately, tyre degradation wasn’t too bad, so I was able to stay ahead and take a really important win.”

The win puts Jamie 13 points clear of Visser in the championship heading into the fourth W Series race at the Norisring in Germany, on 5th/6th July.
