Risi Competizione Le Mans 18 Hour Race Report

As the hours clicked on, the No. 89 Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GTE-Pro of drivers Luis Felipe "Pipo" Derani, Oliver Jarvis, and Jules Gounon, did as well. They continued to claw their way into the Top 10 of this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans race.

At the 18-hour mark Frenchman Jules Gounon was back piloting the Franco-American collaboration Prancing Horse entry in the ninth position.

Brit Jarvis was at the wheel at the halfway point and drove a steady race while in the 10th class position on the leaderboards. The fan favorite Risi Competizione team changed the front brakes on his first stop, and soon thereafter he gave the driving duties over to Brazilian Derani, where a full service stop for tires and fuel. The Risi team followed that by a second stop for rear brakes and a splash of fuel.

Derani's stints were uneventful and strong as he transitioned from night into daylight and eventually gave the driving chores to Gounon just after the 17-hour mark. Gounon soon had moved the Ferrari 488 into ninth place in class, where he stood at the 18-hour mark.

QUOTES:
Jules Gounon, driver No. 89 Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 LM GTE-Pro:
"It was good to get back in the car, especially at night. I always love driving at Le Mans at night. There's something special about it. First stint I didn't even get a full lap with the full course yellow, slow zones and safety car. And then we boxed (pitted) and went back out. I think there was oil down at the first chicane. The Ford went off just ahead of me and then I locked up, so we had to box and change tires. Then I had two more stints and pushed as hard as I could. We'll just keep pushing and see what happens through the rest of the night."

"Pipo" Derani, driver No. 89 Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 LM GTE-Pro:
"It's always good to see the sunlight on Sunday. I was lucky to get that part of the driving (night into day). We are now inside the Top 10, which is positive, like I said before. I had a nice fight with Olivier Pla, who is a very good friend of mine. We just keep hitting our marks and hopefully get to the end. It will be a very good achievement for this 24 Hours. To be honest, the car was better when the sun was blocked by the clouds at the second stint. Immediately when the sun was out the car was a little bit tough to drive. All in all, it's all good."
