Toyota celebrate 1-2 at Le Mans; Ferrari victorious in epic LMGTE Pro battle

Toyota Gazoo Racing have claimed a dominant victory after the No. 8 and No. 7 Toyota TS050 HYBRID sister cars finished first and second respectively after an epic 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Today’s result sees Sébastien Buemi, Fernando Alonso and Kazuki Nakajima clinch the FIA World Endurance Drivers’ Championship to add to the Manufacturers Championship won at Spa.  Nakajima enters the history books as the first Japanese driver to win an FIA World Championship title.

In LMGTE Pro, the No. 51 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GTE Evo triumphed at Le Mans while Porsche – the new FIA World Endurance GTE Manufacturers’ Champions - finished runner-up in the No. 91 car.  A 10th place finish for Kevin Estre and Michael Christensen was enough to win the FIA World Endurance Championship GT Drivers title.

Signatech Alpine Matmut have retained the LMP2 Le Mans title from last year after taking the overall win following a solid drive. More importantly, the French team has clinched the LMP2 title over Jackie Chan DC Racing who put up a terrific fight but eventually finished second.

The LMGTE Am fight went down to the wire with the No. 56 Team Project 1 car narrowly missing out on the win by mere seconds to eventual winners Keating Motorsports but secured the GTE Am Endurance Trophy as a recompense.
