McLaren 720S GT3 completes debut North American season at ‘Monterey Sports Car Championship powered by McLaren’ race event


McLaren Customer Racing teams competed in GT3 and GT4 categories globally this weekend, with the new McLaren 720S GT3 achieving a breakthrough victory on home soil as Balfe Motorsport took the outright win in the British GT 

finale at Donington Park, UK. The 1st place finish crowned a successful debut season in the British series, the Balfe Motorsport 720S GT3 having secured back-to-back pole positions and podium results to come third overall in the championship.


An impressive qualifying performance saw team owner Shaun Balfe and McLaren Factory Driver teammate Rob Bell top the timesheets across split qualifying sessions. This marked a second pole position of the season for the pair, who also headed the grid at the penultimate round. The striking red #22 720S GT3 showed strong pace throughout the 120-minute race at Donington Park, crossing the line for a lights-to-flag victory.

British GT Championship, Donington Park


 Podium finish for Balfe Motorsport in the GT4 Pro-Am class, securing 2nd place in the championship for Graham Johnson and McLaren Young Professional, Michael O’Brien
 
 Top-10 finish for Tolman Motorsport #5 570S GT4, with McLaren Driver Development programme drivers James Dorlin, Josh Smith, Jordan Collard and Lewis Proctor securing 2nd place in the GT4 Teams championship

#57 570S GT4 of Dean McDonald and Callum Pointon took 3rd place both in the overall GT4 Drivers points standings and in GT4 SIlver Cup with HHC Motorsport

Monterey Sports Car Championship powered by McLaren

McLaren Automotive was the Presenting Sponsor of the IMSA race weekend at Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca in California. Titled ‘Monterey Sports Car Championship powered by McLaren’, the event included both the final round of the WeatherTech Sprint Cup and the penultimate round of the Michelin PILOT Challenge calendar
