COVID-19 regs cause cancellation of Pembrey Legends rounds

South Wales circuit Pembrey cancels all remaining 2020 events
Rds7&8 of Legends Cars National Championship season impacted
2020 title race will be decided at Brands Hatch in November

Pembrey Circuit in Carmarthenshire, which was due to host the next two rounds of the Legends Cars National Championship with MRF Tyres at the beginning of October, has confirmed all remaining 2020 events at the venue have been cancelled.

In line with the regulations surrounding the current COVID-19 pandemic, which have been imposed on the organisation of outdoor sporting activities by the Welsh Government, Pembrey Circuit owner the British Automobile Racing Club (BARC) has been left with no option but to take the steps it has.

With no suitable replacement venue available to host what would have been the penultimate event of the rescheduled Legends Cars season, the championship for the 5/8 scale pocket rockets will now be decided over the six races already slated to take place at Brands Hatch on 7th/8th November.

“It’s obviously incredibly disappointing to receive the news we won’t be able to race at Pembrey next month, it’s a fantastic circuit with a wonderful organising team and we will certainly miss being there”, said Legends Cars National Championship with MRF Tyres owner Phil Cooper.

“Very unfortunately we aren’t able to confirm a suitable replacement venue for the penultimate event of our season, so we instead have to look forward to the last two rounds now at Brands Hatch in early November.”

Cooper added: “On behalf of everyone associated with the championship I’d like to send our very best wishes to all involved with Pembrey Circuit’s operations, and also to the BARC. This is a very challenging time, with the COVID-19 situation continually evolving, and devastating for the circuit and the community it serves. We look forward to being back at Pembrey in 2021.”

Following this past weekend’s action at Snetterton 300 Circuit, Daniel Clark (Darras Hall) leads the Legends Cars standings going into the final event of the year at Brands Hatch with a slim 20 point advantage over John Mickel (Horsham). Jack Parker (Wolverhampton) in third is only another 30 points shy, with reigning champion Miles Rudman (Sutton Coldfield) fourth 15 points behind Parker.

Provisional Legends Cars National Championship with MRF Tyres Standings:
1st Daniel Clark, 2770pts; 2nd John Mickel, 2750pts; 3rd Jack Parker, 2720pts;
4th Miles Rudman, 2705pts; 5th Will Gibson, 2510pts; 6th Connor Mills, 2490pts
