FIA European Truck Racing titles not to be awarded in 2020

FOCUS SHIFTS TO NEW SEASON

The FIA Truck Racing Commission has decided not to award the 2020 FIA European Truck Racing Championship Drivers’ and Teams’ titles.

Following the cancellation of the FIA ETRC season finale, scheduled for November 14-15 at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, Italy, the FIA Truck Racing Commission has decided not to award titles for Drivers and Teams this year due to an insufficient number of rounds conducted.

The cancellation of the Italian event was a result of the rising number of COVID-19 cases and travel restrictions imposed in the country.

From this point onwards, the efforts of the championship promoter, the European Truck Racing Association (ETRA), and the FIA will shift towards establishing foundations for next year’s campaign.

Manuel Vidal, President of the FIA Truck Racing Commission, said: “Firstly I would like to recognise the efforts and determination of the promoter of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship who, working with race organisers, managed to host FIA ETRC events despite the extremely difficult and evolving situation.

"While it’s disappointing not to have the championship titles awarded this year, we must understand the severity of the situation. I believe that with the focus shifting early to 2021, we are in a good position to have a strong and competitive FIA ETRC season next year.”

Rolf Werner, FIA European Truck Racing Championship Managing Director, said: "We are extremely disappointed that this years’ FIA ETRC season came to an early end and that there won’t be a Championship classification.

"We would like to thank our teams, partners and fans for sticking with us through these adverse times. Even though most of our fans couldn’t be with us at the track, our #onetruckfamily has truly come together in these difficult times and through everyone’s efforts we were at least able to have 2 successful events, at Most and at the Hungaroring.

"Over the last few weeks we’ve had very positive conversations with our existing race organisers, who are all committed to hosting events in 2021. We are going to announce a calendar for next year very soon.”
