Hybrid format returns for Race Retro sale, providing the best of both worlds
Silverstone Auctions first sale of 2021 is The Race Retro Live Online Auction, taking place on Friday 5th – Saturday 6th March.

This hybrid format blends the traditional, event-style auctions and all of the perks associated with those, combined with the online sales whereby you can participate entirely from the safety of your own home. Three of their four sales in 2020 were carried out in this way and all achieved great results.

The catalogue of cars is already shaping up with some magnificent consignments, including three exquisite Aston Martins. The first is an exceedingly rare left-hand drive 1963 Aston Martin DB4 Series 5, which is one of just 50 DB4 Series 5 saloons built prior to the arrival of the DB5. One of the last cars to be built, it retains its original engine and gearbox numbers and is finished in its original specified colours of Aegean Blue over White Gold, which it still wears to this day.

Gary Dunne, Silverstone Auctions Sales Controller, commented, “We are thrilled with the significantly high standard of cars in our growing lot list for this sale and I can confirm there are many more coming. Even though the sale itself is online, our team are still able to see, touch and hear all of the cars as they arrive at our storage facility, creating a virtual showroom of choice for our buyers.”

Continuing with the spectacular line up of cars going under the hammer next month is this very rare and desirable 1970 Aston Martin DB6 Mk2 Vantage. Finished in British Racing Green, it is one of just 71 that had the Vantage engine from new, half of those were right-hand drive saloons and with factory fitted manual gearbox – of which this is one. This cherished car enjoyed several Concours successes with Aston Martin Owners Club, in addition to the events at which it was awarded a prize.

Amazingly, a third, elegant, Aston Martin will form part of the sale, a lovely 1969 DB6 Mk2 which has benefitted from lots of recent attention at Aston Martin Works. With the history file detailing all of the work carried out, including a full interior retrim, it is remarkable that this is the same facility in which the car was originally built. Similarly, this too is a rare right-hand drive model with the manual gearbox.
