FIA Formula 3 has announced it will be providing the opportunity for two young aspiring female racing drivers from the Iron Dames racing project to get behind the wheel of a Formula series racing car, supporting the progression of their racing careers.

On the 10th November at the Circuit de Magny-Cours in France, Doriane Pin, the 17-year-old French driving talent and finalist of the inaugural FIA Girls on Track – Rising Stars programme, will test this season’s Formula 3 car alongside 17-year-old Spanish-Dutch driver Maya Weug, the first female to join the prestigious Ferrari Driver Academy.

Iron Dames Project Leader, Deborah Mayer, said: “This is another great milestone for promoting female talent in motorsport and it represents everything which I set the Iron Dames project up to do – to open doors in motorsport for aspiring women.

“We are women driven by dreams, dreams to work within motorsport at all levels and it is important that projects such as this continue to provide opportunities like this, encouraging more young talent into the sport.”

“This experience will be important in demonstrating to Maya and Doriane what is involved in the next level of racing, and I’d like to thank FIA F3 for offering this amazing opportunity for both drivers. These will be the fastest cars they have ever driven up to now, and it will help prepare them for climbing to the next stages of their careers.”

Both Pin and Weug are about to conclude their debut season as part of the Iron Dames project, with Weug racing across Italian Formula 4 and ADAC Formula 4, and Pin finishing a strong 3rd place in the drivers’ championship in the Michelin Le Mans Cup series.

Doriane will also compete in the final round of Ferrari Challenge Europe, the Finali Mondiali, driving alongside Iron Dame Michelle Gatting and Iron Lynx driver, Arno Dahlmeyer.

Iron Dames is a special project created and led by Deborah Mayer with the aim of supporting women in motorsport.

In 2021, the Iron Dames squad has competed alongside the Iron Lynx cars in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, FIA World Endurance Championship, European Le Mans Series, Michelin Le Mans Cup, GT World Challenge Europe, Italian GT Endurance Championship, Ferrari Challenge Europe, Italian Formula 4 and ADAC Formula 4.

The project provides a touchstone of inspiration for the next generation of women who will choose to become involved in motorsport, whether as drivers or as team members such as mechanics, engineers or management. The project is recognised and supported by the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission.
