With competitors willing to take part in the full campaign accepted until Friday, April 22
As announced following last December’s FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting, the championship will be held across an eight-round calendar spanning from the penultimate weekend of May to the beginning of October and featuring venues well established on the truck racing map.
Following the curtain-raising event in Misano, Italy, the FIA ETRC fraternity will move to the Hungaroring. July is set to mark the return of two familiar circuits to the calendar – the Slovakia Ring (featuring on for the first time since 2019) and the Nürburgring, which was called off last year due to the catastrophic floods occurring in Germany’s Rhineland on the eve of the event.
Traditionally the second part of the season will be comprised of four race meetings (Autodrom Most, Zolder, Le Mans and Jarama) held across five weeks, providing an exciting and fast-paced title-deciding phase of the season.
Competitors willing to compete on a race by race basis will be accepted until 48 hours prior to scrutineering checks at each of the events.
Marek Nawarecki, Director of FIA Sport and Touring Cars Department, said: “After a couple of challenging years, the FIA European Truck Racing Championship has turned the corner and currently is on the upwards trajectory. There were several positive developments over the last 12 months, including the successful implementation of the HVO biodiesel and the extension of Goodyear as the exclusive tyre supplier to the championship. I’m confident this will translate into a strong entry not only this season, but also in the following years and the FIA ETRC will continue to grow both on the sporting side as well as platform relevant to the industry.”
Rolf Werner, ETRA Managing Director, said: "We had an incredibly competitive grid last season with a mix of different manufacturers and 2022 will without a doubt see more great truck racing action. We’ve laid the groundwork in our sustainability transition and with the introduction of a 100% sustainable fuel, we have proved that it is possible to take actions for lower GHG emissions with commercial vehicles on the road, which is demonstrated on the track. The biodiesel has proven itself under the most extreme racing conditions, without impacting the performance on track. It is an exciting time for the championship and we are looking forward to kicking off the season in May.”
