ATECH REID CONFIRMS DAN WELLS FOR THRUXTON
Atech Reid GP is delighted to confirm that rising British racer Dan Wells will join the team for this weekend’s double-header rounds of the 2011 Michelin Formula Renault 2.0 UK Championship at Thruxton. The 19 year-old Racing Steps Foundation finalist only started circuit racing last season in Formula Ford, and was part of the RSF after competing just 22 races in a short career which started in karting in 2009.
Although no stranger to Formula Renault, the Salisbury-based driver is nevertheless a relative novice to the series but hopes to learn from the race-winning team’s Tio Ellinas, who clinched his maiden victory last time out. Wells will take to the Hampshire track for the official pre-race test on Friday, joining Cypriot Ellinas and fellow Briton Oscar King in a three-car line-up.
“I’m delighted to be joining Atech Reid GP for the next three rounds at least,” said Dan. “And it’s particularly good to be starting with my home track of Thruxton. I’m relatively new to racing, having only started karting when I was 18 and then a season in Formula Ford, so I know it will be very much a learning experience this weekend. However I shall take a lot from the experience of the team members and Tio in particularly which should offer a good foundation from which to build over the coming races.”
Team Principal David Hayle was equally delighted with the announcement as the team heads to this weekend’s BTCC support rounds hoping for more race success; “We’re very pleased to have Dan on board for this weekend. It’s his home circuit so hopefully he’ll have lots of local support, which is always a good way to start your campaign. He’s proved himself immensely in Formula Ford, and although he’s relatively new to Formula Renault, I have every confidence that he will settle in and work well with his engineer and hopefully get a good result in front of his home crowd”
The team will take to the track today Friday 29 April, prior to the two official qualifying sessions, which takes place on Saturday at 09.00 and 14.05. The weekend’s opening 16-lap race will take place later that afternoon at 17.40 with the second race at 15.05 on Sunday.
