Atech Reid GP is delighted to confirm British racer Jack Hawksworth as its new signing for the remainder of the 2011 Michelin Formula Renault 2.0 UK Championship which resumes at Croft this weekend. The 20 year-old from Bradford will join Tio Ellinas, Oscar King and Dan Wells in North Yorkshire on Friday for testing prior to the double-header rounds of the BTCC support series.
The former karter contested the earlier rounds of the Formula Renault series after making an impressive debut in the 2010 Winter Cup, securing pole in his very first single seater race. Thereafter the talented Yorkshireman picked up three additional pole spots and finished the series in third place with two podium finishes to his credit.
After visiting the Atech Reid GP’s Cardiff base yesterday, Jack was delighted to confirm his participation in the remaining rounds of the series with the David Hayle and Anthony Reid-led team, which has already notched up victory and an impressive record of podium places with Cypriot Ellinas, to sit second in the points table.
“I’m very much looking forward to contesting the remaining rounds of the 2011 Formula Renault 2.0 UK Championship with Atech Reid GP, who have proved to be a very professional team so far so this season,” said Jack. “I was very impressed with my visit to the team yesterday when I got to meet all the key team members, who are all very motivated for success.
“Although I have yet to test with the team, I think we all gelled very well and I’m hoping they will help me to up my game and help me to improve. Although it’s unrealistic to talk about my chances of winning first time out, I will still go into the Croft races this weekend the way I always do, determined for victory and with the confidence to do so. I am very much up for the challenge.”
Team Principal David Hayle was equally optimistic about Jack’s first race weekend with the team, which kicks off with testing on Friday.
“We at Atech Reid GP are delighted to welcome Jack as the latest addition to our team. Along with Tio, Oscar and Dan we have another fast driver in the team which will help us keep pushing forward. His performance in last year’s Winter Cup showed he has the pace to be a front-runner and we look forward to a successful remainder of the 2011 series.”
The team will take to the track this Friday 17 June, for two test sessions prior to the two 30 minute qualifying sessions, which takes place on Saturday at 10.25 and 14.10.
The weekend’s opening 15-lap race will take place later that afternoon at 17.10 with the second race at 13.50 on Sunday.
