Ford GT40 race for Masters Barcelona Festival

The organisers of the Barcelona-based Catalan Classic Festival have added a Ford GT40 race to the programme, to be operated by Masters Historic Racing.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic car, Masters will run a race-within-a-race for GT40s at the Catalan Classic Festival over the weekend of April 12-14. The cars will run within the existing World Sportscar Masters grid for a 90-minute race with special awards being presented to the winning GT40 team.

In addition, entrants will receive free testing pre-event, €100 travel voucher on arrival at the circuit, three free nights in a four-star hotel and the cars would form the centrepiece of a display in the paddock and take part in a special parade of competition vehicles around the streets of Barcelona pre-event. There will also be four free test sessions for the GT40s on the Friday of the event.

Said Masters Historic Racing event manager Rachel Bailey: “The Ford GT40 is one of the most recognisable GT cars of the 1960s and is sure to be a hit with the Spanish fans. With Joaquin Folch in his early GT40 taking on opposition from across Europe, there is sure to be a great battle between the cars on the Spanish Grand prix circuit. We are looking at getting 10 GT40s to make a superb spectacle within the WSM race.”

Event promoter Jesus Pozo said: “We are looking forward to welcoming a number of GT40s and their owners to the event and to add something special to the Festival. The cars still turn heads after all this time and will produce a great spectacle. We are working closely with Masters to attract car owners to Barcelona.”

The Catalan Classic Festival runs at the Barcelona circuit from April 12th – 14th.
