A day of Classic and Retro Car Action at Castle Combe Circuit

Classic and Retro Car Clubs will be out in force this Saturday as Castle Combe Circuit welcomes the inaugural Classic & Retro Action Day.A total of 65 Owner's Clubs and just short of 1000 cars are anticipated to this exciting event with the oldest cars dating back to just 1929.Marketing and Events Manager, Jo Sparrow, confirmed: "We have run a Classic & Sports Car Action Day at Castle Combe Circuit for a number of years but have noticed that, over the years, the sports cars have been getting newer and the classic cars scarcer. We have therefore given the event a bit of a health check over the last few months and are hoping to attract some fabulous classics and retrosalong for this year."The list of Owner's Clubs is looking really promising and we have a range of classics already signed up to attend. It looks as though a 1929 AlfaRomeo is the oldest car coming along. Add in an Austin 8 from 1946, a Bristol 400 from 1948 and some great cars from the 1950s including a 1958Lister Bristol sports racer, a 1958 Austin Westminster and a 1959 Austin Healey Sprite and you already have a great collection of cars.

"The Retro years are also well represented with a range of Capri MK1, MG Midgets and Austin Sprites from the late 1960s and early 1970s, some Triumph Dolomite Sprints, Vauxhall HP Firenza and Honda S800s from the early 1970s whilst the seldom-seen Hillman Avenger from 1972 will also be attending. We've got a great flavour of the 1980s also with a collection of Fiat Pandas, Opel Manta, Minis and more all representing this era.Action Days at Castle Combe Circuit welcome Owner's Clubs from all over the UK and the 2013 Classic & Retro Action Day is looking to be no exception."The gathering of Owner's Clubs and cars is quite astounding and we have a great range coming along for this year including the Austin CambridgeWestminster Car Club, the Imp Club, Frome Classic Cars, Colerne Classic Cars, Somerset Classic & Track Club, the Fiat Motor Club (GB) to name but a few" confirmed Jo. "There are currently 65 clubs attending with some coming from as far afield as Suffolk, Surrey, East Sussex and Staffordshire with others coming from as close by as Bristol; we're absolutely delighted with the turnout."The event will also be celebrating the anniversary of many marques with probably the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 911 being the one most recognised of all.Jo continued: "We have a fabulous timetable of on track events throughout the day. We will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 911 with Porsche Club GB and The Independent Porsche Enthusiasts' Club who will be taking 50 Porsche out on the Circuit at 1.45pm for a special Porsche Parade Lap."The Classic Cruise will be taking place at lunchtime when all Classic and Retro Cars, whether they are part of an Owner's Club or parked up in ourCherished Car Area, are more than welcome to join in" confirmed Jo. "There is no charge for participating, it's just turn up at the right place and atthe right time and you can enter. We generally expect at least 200 cars out on the circuit so you can just imagine the crowds that this draws.""We've also tied up with the Bristol Vintage Bus Group who will be running Passenger Rides around the Circuit during the day allowing visitors whomaybe don't have a suitable car, to also get out on track. They will be bringing along a range of vintage buses some of which will go on track, somewill be for display purposes only whilst others will be taking trips into Castle Combe Village with stop offs at the Manor House Hotel for cream tea."What's great is that not only will you get to have a look around some vintage buses but you will also get to hear their history from guys who haverestored every last nut and bolt and... it's all absolutely free! Bristol Vintage Bus Group are doing this just because they love their buses so domake sure to come along on the day and say hello" confirmed Jo.The Classic and Retro Action Day takes place at Castle Combe Circuit on Saturday 29th June 2013.
