To celebrate its first 10 years, the museum, based in Hayes, London, invited friends of the museum, local dignitaries and car collectors to admire a collection of over 200 cars, followed by an evening reception to launch the new exhibition.

The ‘Corsa Classica’ exhibition features recreations of two iconic 50s racers, the Ferrari 196 sp Dino and the 1957 Maserati 450S. Dedicated to the legendary Argentinian racer Juan Manuel Fangio who raced for both teams, the exhibition celebrates the beauty of race cars from the past.

The Ferrari 196 sp Dino looks like a slightly smaller version of the 250 Testa Rossa, but upon closer inspection it becomes clear that the transparent air intake over the carburettors has six instead of 12 trumpets. This version enjoyed stellar performances winning numerous races in its class before making way for the more powerful 246 model.

The 1957 Maserati 450S was among the fastest Maserati sports car ever made and built to challenge the V12 Ferraris. With its front mounted 4.5-litre V8 engine, the Maserati reached 100mph in just 11 seconds, producing 420 horsepower and had a top speed of 193 mph.

I started off just buying a few cars that were my personal favourites but the new ‘Corsa Classica’ exhibition marks a new direction for the museum focusing on historic and significant cars.
