Masters HGP to kick off at Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada

The all-new Masters HGP series will kick off at the 2014 FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX DU CANADA with two support races to the 45th Canadian round of the FIA Formula One World Championship.

Masters HGP will provide a grid, anticipated to be 25 cars, for the opening rounds of its 2014 season, the first of its four events. Among the entry is anticipated to be the ex-Gilles Villeneuve Ferrari 312T5 from 1980, which will transport fans back to the French-Canadian’s fifth place in the race.

“We couldn’t find a better moment to bring back some of the greatest cars seen in the past on our Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, a track where most of them shone. As Montréal is hosting for the 35th time a round of the FIA Formula 1 Championship, we’re extremely proud to add Masters HGP to our programme”, as explained President and CEO of the FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX DU CANADA, François Dumontier. “We are convinced that drivers, owners and fans will appreciate sharing another great FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX DU CANADA weekend next June.”

“We are thrilled that Masters HGP will be part of an event with the prestige and heritage of the FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX DU CANADA. For Masters HGP to be recognised as a support race to a modern day Formula 1 race is a massive honour and to open our 2014 season at a Grand Prix is a huge compliment to the series. We can't wait to provide a grid of cars that does more than just thrill race fans: we will stir some great memories as well,” said Ron Maydon from Masters HGP.

In addition to the ex-Villeneuve Ferrari, the entry should boast Mario Andretti’s 76 Lotus 77, John Watson’s 1982 McLaren MP4/1B, Jody Scheckter’s 1978 Wolf Racing WR6, Jan Lammers’ 1979 Shadow DN9 and Keke Rosberg’s 1983 Williams FW08C in what promises to be a full grid, all running in period livery.

Masters HGP races will take place Saturday afternoon (June 7) and Sunday morning (June 8).
