Most will remember Ayrton's first victory GP victory - check out the video of the race - worth it for James Hunts laconic commentary alone!
The car that took Ayrton Senna to his first ever Grand Prix win will be on display at the Brands Hatch Masters Festival. The Brazilian won a rain-soaked Portuguese Grand Prix at Estoril in 1985 in his JPS-liveried Lotus 97T/2, having started from pole position for the first time in his career. On his way to victory, Senna lapped everyone except for second place finisher Michele Alboreto’s Ferrari. He won again at Spa that season while team-mate Elio De Angelis guided his 97T to victory at Imola for the final win of his career. The car is run by Classic Team Lotus and will be part of the F1 display area at the annual Brands Hatch Masters Historic Festival on May 24/25. Rachel Bailey, Masters Historic Racing Event Manager said: “This is a fabulous coup for the event. The Senna legend is as strong as ever and while people remember him mostly for his successes in McLarens, his amazing drive in the rain at Estoril in 1985 should never be under-estimated. His efforts underlined his ability in wet weather and laid the foundations for a stunning career. We are delighted that Classic Team Lotus has been able to loan us the car for the weekend and are sure it will be a big attraction.”To buy tickets for the Brands Hatch Masters Historic Festival, visit http://www.brandshatch.co.uk/calendar/2014/may/masters.aspx or call 0843 453 9000.
