Castle Combe Circuit goes classic this weekend

NEWS FROM CASTLE COMBE ACTION DAYS LLP 24TH JUNE

Castle Combe Circuit is welcoming back the ever popular Classic and Retro Action Day this Saturday 28th June and this year it's looking better than ever.

With the bar set high (2013 was deemed by many as "the best yet"), the Circuit has been making every effort to make this event one to remember within its busy events calendar.

Karen Marshallsay, Director of the Castle Combe Action Days confirmed: "We are delighted with the way that this event has been shaping up over the last few weeks and months. The Bristol Vintage Bus Group rather stole the show in 2013 with complimentary passenger rides around the circuit. People were seen to be queuing a good 20 minutes just to get onto the buses. I'm not sure that any lap records were broken as the buses only managed 2 laps in around 15 minutes but you could just see the fun that people were having. You could also hear plenty of "When I was a boy..." type stories as well!!

"2014 goes one better however as, not only are we joined once again by the Bristol Vintage Bus Group but, we also have hot air balloons, scooters, veteran cycles, the Atwell-Wilson Motor Museum and so much more besides. And this is on top of the 65 Owner's Clubs showcasing hundreds of classic and retro cars between them".

Subject to weather conditions, the day will kick off with an early start for the balloonists who plan to launch from the inner field of the circuit at around 5.30am. Trade and Owner's Clubs will then start arriving from 7am for a show start of 9am.

"The day is a great blend of Car Show and Track Day with the emphasis being on all things classic," continued Karen. "The track is open from 9am and we have split the various sessions into eras to ensure that the verging on vintage are as equally at home on the track as the more modern classics. Add in the Vintage Bus passenger rides, the Classic Cruise when all classic and retro cars are invited out onto the circuit, slow speed parade laps and more and there's plenty to keep visitors occupied.

"Add in the 600 or so classic and retro cars that we'll have on display, the hot air balloon interactive Q+A displays, tethered model balloon displays, scooters, veteran cycles and you've got plenty for all the family.

"We are particularly delighted to also be welcoming the Atwell-Wilson Motor Museum to the event. We believe this is the first time that they have exhibited at the show and they have certainly gone to town with their display as, not only does it offer a wonderful mix of classics but they're even bringing along a Gregoire 16/24 dating back to 1911 and allegedly, the only one of its type in existence.

"The event will culminate in a mass hot air balloon launch of around 25 balloons taking to the skies above the circuit at around 6pm. We are hoping that this will provide a real grand finale to the event as local balloonists launch from the middle of this international race circuit. The balloons are entirely weather dependent though so we are all busy doing our sun dances at present in the hope that this splendid weather continues for just a little bit longer!"

The event takes place at Castle Combe Circuit on Saturday 28th June with gates opening at 9am. Admission is just £15 on the day for adults and £10 for seniors.Children under the age of 17 go free.
