Masters Historic Racing will make its debut at the Czech Republic circuit at Brno next weekend as part of the Brno Grand Prix Revival.
Masters Historic Racing will take three grids to the first-running of the GP Revival event, with races for the FIA Masters Historic Formula One Championship, FIA Masters Historic Sports Car Championship and a combined Gentlemen Drivers Pre-66 GT and Masters Pre-66 Touring cars race.
The FIA Masters Historic Formula One Championship has been dominated by Steve Hartley (Arrows A4) who heads the title race on the Post 1978 category by 12 points from Simon Fish (Ensign N180) and Joaquin Folch who are tied for second, just one point ahead of Ian Simmonds (Tyrrell 012). The Pre-1978 category is led by American Charles Nearburg and Manfredo Rossi di Montelera but neither has entered as yet allowing Andrew Beaumont to close on them in his Lotus 76/1.
Andy Newall heads the FIA Masters Historic Sports Car Championship, his Chevron B8 six points clear of the Chevron B16 of Emanuele Benedini. The two will go head to head in the fourth round of the championship, although race honours will be disputed by the Lola T70 Mk3Bs of Mike Donovan and Jason Wright who is joined by Italian racing legend Arturo Merzario.
A fascinating mix of cars tackles the combined Gentlemen Drivers Pre-66 GT and Pre-66 Touring Cars race. Marcus von Oeyenhausen’s Jaguar E-type heads the entry against the AC Cobra of Jason Wright/Andy Wolfe. Wolfe also shares Graham Wilson’s Lotus Elan, while Greg Thornton heads the Touring Car pack in his Ford Mustang against the similar car of Enrico Spaggiari and Jason Wright’s Alfa Romeo Guilia.
Masters Historic Racing Event Manager Rachel Bailey said: “We are looking forward to some great racing at the wonderful Brno circuit and are delighted to be supporting this newly-promoted event. Our two FIA Championships are set to deliver thrills for the Czech crowd and with a number of Championship contenders competing at Le Mans Classic, this round will be crucial to the outcome of the title races.”
The Brno GP Revival runs on the weekend of July 4th-6th.
