LIFE OF RACER, BRDC AND CLUB DES PILOTES BOARD MEMBER COLIN POOL CELEBRATED AT SALUTE TO STYLE AT THE HURLINGHAM CLUB

De Cadenet Ford raced by Colin Pool is part of the Le Mans and Racers display‘Spirit of La Sarthe’ Trophy to be presented at ceremony

Salute to Style at The Hurlingham Club is to host a celebration of the life of famous racer and historic motoring enthusiast Colin Pool, who died in May after a short illness. He was only 64.

A long-standing BRDC and 96 Club Member, Colin Pool had been invited by the ACO to join the board of the Club des Pilotes and had, over the last five years, single-handedly resurrected the almost extinct Club des Pilotes du Mans Britannique.

For over 18 months, Colin and 96 Club founder Michael Scott, also organiser of ‘Salute to Style’ in partnership with The Hurlingham Club, had been discussing the possibility of announcing a new trophy: an award to be presented to the highest-placed British team racing at Le 24h du Mans each year. The plan was for the trophy to be known as 'The Spirit of La Sarthe'.

Accordingly, accomplished sculptor, entrepreneur and founder of the HRDC, Race Director Julius Thurgood was approached to design 'The Spirit of La Sarthe' trophy in Colin Pool's memory, to complete the plans that had been made before his death.

Colin's trophy 'The Spirit of La Sarthe' will be presented at an informal ceremony taking place at 7.00pm on Friday 18 July at the Salute to Style event at the Hurlingham Club, London.

The ceremony will take place surrounded by an impressive display of Le Mans cars - including the De Cadenet Ford that Colin raced in Thundersports after its sensational Le Mans career.

Salute to Style entry tickets start at £49 (Bastille Day Ball, £198, après dinner entertainment, £66) and have to be pre-booked: visit http://www.hurlinghamclub.org.uk/private-events/salute-to-style for more information and ticket purchasing.
