British motoring legend Sir Stirling Moss will be guest of honour at Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb this weekend (19th/20th July) when the historic venue turns back the clock for two days of 'Classic Nostalgia'.
The annual event will see a wide range of cars from the 1950s and 60s taking to the hill in competition, with many further displays and attractions both on and off the track.
Organised by the Midland Automobile Club, both visitors and competitors alike are being invited to wear period dress to add to the classic feel and atmosphere of the meeting with prizes being awarded for the best outfits.
Sir Stirling will be appearing on Sunday courtesy of Peter James & Stuart Miller Insurance where he will be reunited with cars that helped to shape his illustrious career, including the Cooper Type 51, Lotus 18 and the Ferrari 250 GT, with one lucky visitor having the opportunity for a 'ride of a lifetime' passenger trip up the hill in this car with Sir Stirling, while others can have their picture taken sitting behind the wheel to help raise money for charity.
F1 television presenter Louise Goodman will also host an open question and answer session with Sir Stirling and he will be signing autographs for fans throughout his visit.
The two separate one-day meetings will feature cars from over the decades from manufacturers Austin, Lotus, Cooper, MG, March and Chevron, with several specialist car clubs in attendance including Dellow, Riley, Classic American, MG Register, the Steam Car Club of GB and the Awfully Pleasant Scooter Association.
Saturday hosts drivers in the Luffield, Bugatti Owners, Paul Matty and Bert Hadley Memorial championships with many local competitors taking part including Paul Jones in a Britax Mini Cooper, Duncan Andrews in an Elden, Robin Nicholson in a Mallock, Mike Gallery in a Porsche 911 and Bryony Serrell in a Lotus.
Sunday will see a Concours d'elegance competition, run in conjunction with Classic & Sports Car Magazine, for the first 100 entrants driven through the gates and is to be judged by motoring journalist Simon Taylor.
A host of vintage-inspired non-stop family entertainment is planned for the courtyard area and will feature performances from 'The Shelsley Stompers' jazz band, Vegas Show Girls, Vintage Rose, Ukulele band, Lindy Hoppers and Blitz Buddies dance troupes, while a 1960s Pitts by-plane will perform an aerial display overhead.
