DAVID BRABHAM MAKES HIS RACE RETRO DEBUT

A trio of cars synonymous with the late great Sir Jack Brabham will join Jack’s son and racing driver David at this year’s Race Retro, in a display brought to Stoneleigh Park, by Hall & Hall. From 20th to 22nd February, motorsport enthusiasts will see the BT6, BT8 and a BT24 recreation in a display on the show’s ‘Speed Street’.

A triple Formula 1 World champion, Sir Jack was one of the true legends of motorsport and one of the best driver-engineers to have ever competed in F1. Jack went from racing midgets on dirt tracks in Australia to taking the motorsport world by storm.

The Brabham name is renowned not only for Sir Jack’s outstanding achievements on track, but also as a team owner and manufacturer spanning 40 years with multiple Formula 2 and Formula 3 accolades, and the Formula 1 World Constructors’ titles in 1966 and 1967.

Jack’s son David has continued that legacy and will be at the show on Friday and Sunday to talk about his incredible career and Project Brabham, the sustainable open source racing model that will return the iconic team name to the race track.

A triple Le Mans 24 Hours class winner, David secured an outright victory with Team Peugeot Total in 2009 with a consecutive hat-trick of wins, following double GT1 titles with Aston Martin Racing in 2007 and 2008.

Back-to-back American Le Mans Series Championships with Highcroft Racing in 2009 and 2010 followed, with David achieving two championship titles, 24 race wins, 62 class podiums and 14 pole positions in 105 ALMS starts since 1999.

Unquestionably one of the most outstanding drivers of his generation, David is renowned for his unrivalled experience, motivational energy and focused driving force. His unique ability to gauge and direct the team dynamic in such a way that inspires every member to break boundaries has helped deliver outstanding results for decades.

“The last few years of my life I have taken a keener interest in old racing cars and what they achieved and represented in their time, and so I am really looking forward to attending my first Race Retro,” said David. “It will be a great opportunity to see some wonderful cars, speak to the public about the Brabham heritage and the future of Brabham through Project Brabham.”

David will be joined by three of the Brabham cars thanks to Hall & Hall. The 1963 BT6 which scored numerous victories in the hands of the likes of Jo Schlesser and works driver Denny Hulme, its successor the BT8, and the 1967 BT24.

The BT24 proved to be a reliable racer and provided three first and second place finishes for drivers Brabham and Hulme. Hulme finished the season in excellent fashion, being declared the Drivers’ Champion. Brabham came in second. The team won the Constructor's Championship for the second season in a row.
