British racing driver, Nick Padmore, was again on top form as he took the class win, and P2 overall, in the FIA Masters Historic Sports Car race at Brands Hatch GP on Sunday.

Racing for the first time since his lap record-breaking appearance at Goodwood back in March, Padmore needed no time to get back into it and he put Max Smith-Hilliard's 1971 Chevron B19 on class pole by 1.6sec on Saturday morning.

Smith-Hilliard took the helm for Saturday's Race 1 and drove an excellent race to finish 2nd in class and 5th overall out of 29 entries.

Padmore lined up on the grid in Smith-Hilliard's finishing position for Race 2 on Sunday. After making a lightning start off the line, Padmore immediately got up into 2nd overall, and the class lead, as he menaced race leader Simon Hadfield in the opening stages.

Although Hadfield had the straight-line speed, Padmore was able to keep with him through the entirety of the race before turning the engine down in the closing stages.

The leaders crossed the line some 70sec clear of the rest of the field with Padmore sealing P2 overall and class victory.

Nick Padmore:"Very happy with that; it's been a great weekend! Max was on it in Race 1 and kept a cool head throughout.

"The overall race win would've been a bonus but our focus was winning the class, which we achieved, so we're delighted with the result.

"The car was on top form from the outset this weekend so thank you to WDK Motorsport for all their hard work and thank you of course to Max for giving me the opportunity to share the Chevron with him.

"He was also racing his Williams FW07 in the F1 races and he was pushing all the way, getting stuck in to some close battles and bringing home two very encouraging results.

"All in all, it's been a very successful weekend but we'll be working hard to see what we can learn and find areas where we can improve."
