Some lovely bits of kit under the hammer today at Race Retro.

Bargain of the day - for me - the BMW 2002 Group 2 car hammered at £28,500 - nearly £33k with commission - Lester Owen 240 bhp motor and 790 kgs and eligible for some decent racing - build cost a reported £80k!! Having had a 200 bhp ratty 2002 track car - which was my daily 20 years ago - I am in love with the beauty above.

Racecar client - Kimi Raikkonen's old Formula Renault popped up again and was hammered at £12,000 - a year after being sold for £10,350 at Coys. After vendor's commission he is not going to retire on the proceeds but he has not lost money either - how many of us can say that with old racecars?!

Knowing Kimi's management I was thinking of having a punt and seeing if I could take a small profit by offering it to the Iceman - but I imagine the conversation would have gone something like this:

"Kimi - are you interested in buying your championship winning Formula Renault - the only car you raced before becoming an F1 megastar?!"

Kimi - "No - leave me alone"

Who knows it may have been bought for him - and it might be on it's way to him now - but I doubt it....
