Barons has amassed a fascinating and diverse selection of cars, motorcycles and automobilia for its Jaguar Heritage, Classic Cars & Motorcycles sale at Kempton Park race course, Surrey on Saturday September 17th.
With a wide range of styles, ages and prices, the sale has plenty to appeal to all enthusiasts, from a collector looking to add a prestige vehicle to their stable, somebody dipping their toe into classic ownership for the first time so on the hunt for a starter classic, a fan of two-wheeled classics or a buyer looking for that elusive piece of automobilia. Further entries are invited.
The ‘big cats’ are lead by two very beautiful E-type Fixed Head Coupés, an immaculate 1964 3.8 ‘Fast Road’ (£80,000-£100,000) and a 1968 Series 1.5 (£70,000-£85,000.). The ‘Fast Road’ emerged last year from a two-year, comprehensive and exceptionally high quality rebuild , while the 1.5 is in superb original condition. Its last three owners have all worked for Jaguar Cars.
Another stunning example of the Jaguar marque comes in the form of the 1948 MkIV. This very handsome motor car was originally registered to Jaguar Cars Limited, and was built for Mr A Whittaker, Jaguar Cars’ Chairman, who specified some unusual features such as the pigskin interior. It is presented in near-concours condition, following a very well pictorially documented restoration which started in 1982 and was completed 22 years later! Estimate: £50,000-£60,000.
Other marques on offer include Skoda, represented by two rare examples: a 1955 1200 Sedan (£7,500-£8,500) and 1951 1102 Sedan (£9.500-£11,000). ‘Starter classics’ include the 1983 Ford Capri 2.8 (£4,000-£6,000), 1947 Hillman Minx (£4,000-£5,000) and the 1969 Morris Minor Traveller (£6,500-£7,500).
The motorcycle line-up is equally diverse, including a quartet of Italian bikes: a very rare 1956 Maserati 125 in highly original condition (£7,000-£10,000), a fine 1955 MV Disco Volante (£9,000-£12,000), a 1974 Moto Morini 350 (£3,500-£4,500) and 2004 Ducati 748 (£3,000-£5,000).
There’s also a US-Italian hybrid, a 1974 Aermacchi/Harley Davidson 350 (£3,500-£4,500), and an all-American 1987 Harley Davidson 1200 Custom ‘hard tail chop’, which has covered just 65 miles since restoration and rebuild (£5,000-£7,000).
The automobilia entries includes many desirable Jaguar-related items such as the rarely available 1950s gold placed Jaguar Director’s desk piece (£100-£150) and several porcelain enameled advertising signs – just the thing to decorate any Jaguar enthusiast’s garage or study.
The Kempton Park sale is Barons’ first auction at this venue, and follows hot on the heels of Barons’ sale at Sandown Park, which saw a splendid 1978 Aston Martin V8 lead the results, selling for £62,640.
