Ferrari North Europe has announced the addition of a fantastic historic Ferrari F1 car display at the Ferrari Passione event at Silverstone, on 23-24 September, with four cars from different decades on display. Two of the cars are kindly on loan from the Donington Collection: a 312T and a 312 T5.
The 312T (chassis 024) is the final 312T to be built and it was first raced by Clay Regazzoni in the French Grand Prix in July of 1975, although it wasn’t until the Italian Grand Prix at Monza that it took the Swiss driver to the top step of the podium, with a further win at the USA Grand Prix at Long Beach in 1976. The 312T has a 180-degree V12 engine with a capacity of 2992cc engine which developed 495hp at 12,000rpm.
The 312 T5 was the last of Ferrari’s F1 T cars and was driven by both Jody Scheckter and Gilles Villeneuve in the 1980 season, but with Scuderia Ferrari’s technical development focused on the new turbocharged V6-engines due to replace the naturally-aspirated V12 engine in the 312 T5 for the 1981 season, the 312 T5 did not deliver the race results of its predecessors.
Also on display is the 1990 Ferrari 641/2 (chassis 120) which Nigel Mansell campaigned during the season to help Ferrari win the World Championship, with a Pole Position and a 1st place at the Portuguese Grand Prix at Estoril. The 641/2 has a 3.5-litre V12 engine which developed 680hp at 12,750rpm.
Accompanying the F1 cars on display from the 1970s and 1990s is an earlier and incredibly beautiful F2 single-seater from the 1960s: a Dino 166 F2 which was launched in 1967 but which also raced in the Tasman Cup series from 1968. The Dino 166 F2 had a 1600cc V6 engine which developed 200hp at 10,000rpm, and a kerbweight of only 425kg.
Joining Ferrari at the event will be ex-Ferrari F1 driver, Rene Arnoux, who will be showcasing the XX programme and providing on-track demonstrations in the 599XX and FXX K track cars from the company’s Corse Clienti division. The on-track action also includes a round of the Pirelli Ferrari Formula Classic Series, organised and managed by the Ferrari Owners Club GB, which allows cars from the 308 GTB to the F355 to compete on track in a competitive racing format, with grids of around 30 cars competing in different categories to allow for the performance differences from cars of different eras.
Ferrari North Europe will be hosting 1,000 Ferrari VIP clients in an exclusive hospitality area overlooking the pit lane and the main start/finish line, with hospitality tickets available exclusively for Ferrari owners via the official Ferrari Dealer Network. Ferrari clients will be able to pre-book time on track for driving their own cars, or to test drive a car from the current Ferrari range both on road and on track. Clients will also be able to take part in a Ferrari parade each day, with more than 100 cars expected on track to showcase the incredible depth and breadth of the Italian marque’s heritage and product range over the company’s nearly 70 years.
Ferrari clients who are interested in competing in the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli, the Prancing Horse’s own one-make race series with a full calendar of racing throughout the year at races tracks all across Europe, will have the opportunity to see and experience the 458 Challenge which is still eligible to compete in the 2017 series alongside the 488 Challenge which makes its debut in the series next year.
The Friday will also see Ferrari North Europe host its annual Charity Event once again, in which 50 terminally-ill or seriously disabled children from Rays of Sunshine and from BEN, the automotive industry’s own benevolent fund, have a thrilling passenger ride in a Ferrari California T around the tight and twisty Stowe Circuit. This is the 7th year Ferrari North Europe has organised this event at Silverstone, and it has become the cornerstone of the brand’s CSR activities in the UK.
General Public tickets will grant access to the Ferrari paddock area and the special Ferrari “showroom” with a full product range of Ferrari cars on display inside Hall 1 of the Silverstone Wing. Tickets can be purchased directly from the Silverstone website: www.silverstone.co.uk/events/passione-ferrari. Tickets cost £10, while children aged 15 and under can attend for free when accompanied by a paying adult.
