210 crews announced for 101st Targa Florio

Ninety-six crews out of a total of 210 are announced from April 20 to 23 on the roads of the legendary "Cursa" for the first round of the Grandi Eventi Italian Championship and the Ferrari Tribute

The 101st Targa Florio, to be held in Sicily from April 20 to 23, was presented in the elegant Palazzo Comitini, in the Palermo city center, by the race organizers Automobile Club Palermo and Automobile Club d'Italia. In total, over 210 crews are announced in the event, including Targa Florio international and historic rally and the historic regularity competition with both the Targa Florio Classic, first round of the Grandi Eventi Italian Championship, and the Ferrari Tribute (with a total of 96 entries).

Programme.
The 2017 Targa Florio Classic will start on Thursday, April 20 from the elegant heart of Palermo, Piazza Verdi, and soon will move to Giardini Naxos, prestigious seaside place on the Ionian Sea. On day 2 the drivers reach the “Pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea”, Taormina, exclusive city where cultures, traditions, landscapes, art, history and legend meet. During the same day, back on the Ionian Sea coast, competition reaches Aci Castello, goes to Catania, stops there at the University and then moves on to the inland up to the Autodromo di Pergusa, one of the most popular European track and scene of many international events during the years. Last transfer of the day is from the historycal circuit back to Palermo. Saturday is dedicated to the Madonie roads and to the beauties of their towns, synonym of Targa Florio, with an obliged passage at the Floriopoli grandstands. Final day on Sunday, April 23, when this exclusive “circus” leaves Palermo to reach the province of Trapani touching Castellammare del Golfo and the beautiful archaeological site in Segesta before going back to Palermo to end the competition and celebrate drivers and cars during the Award Ceremony in Piazza Verdi.

Drivers and crews.
On the edge of the thousandth of a second of the Targa Florio Classic event also Fabrizio Curci, head of the Alfa Romeo brand for the EMEA area, and Roberto Giolito, head of the Heritage department of FCA - Fiat Chrysler Automobiles - will compete. Several top drivers are announced then. Among them last year's winner Giovanni Moceri on a 1938 Fiat 508C, another proponent of the “Sicilian school” such as Angelo Accardo with a 1957 Fiat 1100 103 N and Bolognese driver Giuliano Canè behind the wheel of a 1938 Lancia Aprilia.

Another Sicilian specialist is Antonino Margiotta, representing the Scuderia Volvo Club on a 1958 Amazon 121, while another driver coming from Bologna is Massimo Dalleolle with a 1963 Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider. Representing the Ma - Fra brand and the magazine “Automobilismo d'Epoca”, driver and journalist from Monza Eugenio Mosca, pairing Simone Tacconi, will start the race also to write a report about the Targa Florio event, legend and experience.


Scuderia del Portello, benchmark association of the Alfa Romeo Heritage, will be represented by Matteo Pellegrini with the 1969 Alfa Romeo Giulia 1300 Ti that successfully took part in the “Peking to Paris” rally last year. Several drivers come from abroad, starting from Swiss Antonio Carrisi (1962 Alfa Romeo Giulietta SZ), Jean-Luc Papaux (1967 Giulia Sprint GTA) and Gianni Carrisi (Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider type 750 G “Sebring”). Or coming from the United States , or coming from the States, just like David Anglard and his 1968 Lancia Fulvia Zagato Competizione, but also John and Timothy Piccin with their 1952 Ermini 1100 Sport.

From Germany Christof Von Branconi and Ming Yuan from Shanghai on a 1975 Jensen Interceptor Convertibile and Watanabe Takashi e Sugiura with a 1957 Bandini 750 S Saponetta del 1957. From Czech Republic Pavel Zabran and Pollak Jirka on their 1925 Tatra Special Targa Florio, then the Dutch crew formed by Pieter Van Berkel and Carola Adrighem with their 1939 Fiat 500 Sport Zanussi. Coming back to Italian drivers, also present Antonio Perfetti and Augusto Costantini on their 1956 Ockelbo Simca & Sport Barchetta and Sandro and Filiberto Brozzetti with a 1930 OM-665 SSMM Zagato built in 1930.
