Fine classics from British marques set to take centre stage at Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show on the 9th and 10th November as Silverstone Auctions gears up for NEC show.
A major highlight of the auction is one of the finest Aston Martin DB5s to be offered alongside Best of British examples from Land Rover with the fabulous Series 1, the iconic E-Type, a beautiful Sunbeam, a wonderful original low mileage Mk2 Jaguar 2.4 and who can believe it, but a delivery mileage Rover Mini 30 from 1989.
The Aston Martin DB5 will always conjure up images of James Bond and the famous Silver Birch car evading capture and filled with gadgets. But here we have a 1965 matching numbers Aston Martin DB5 finished in California Sage with a Biscuit leather interior. There are no gadgets but there is a fine classic and one of the most famous models for you to own. This UK supplied right-hand drive car underwent a fully documented body-off, nut and bolt restoration in 2008 by marque specialists Goldsmith and Young and finished in 2011. This particular car comes from a private collection where only the best will do and are professionally maintained and stored. Having covered just 2,000 miles since the restoration and having been improved during this period, it is estimated at £600,000 to £700,000. This is one of the finest examples that Silverstone Auctions have offered for sale.
Now we go from luxury to full-on purposeful, the 1949 Land Rover Series 1, a lights behind the grille off-roader. This is the version every Land Rover enthusiast looks for and it has been fully restored to a very high standard. The list of works is extensive, finished in the original deep Bronze Green, with a new canvas roof and the engine has been re-bored to 2 litres. Estimated at £38,000 to £44,000 this is a superbly presented off-roader and one for a connoisseur.
Our next is a little cracker, a 1965 Sunbeam Tiger Mk1 estimated at £50,000 to £60,000. This beauty is a UK-supplied right-hand drive example, which was beautifully restored in 2017 and finished in the stunning colours of Gunmetal with a Mulberry leather interior. The restoration work was painstaking and is documented in a full photographic record with supporting invoices and a history folder, logbook and other period documents. With Sunbeam Tigers becoming a popular British sportscar and finding one in such wonderful condition, this particular car could be a great opportunity. It certainly looks the part.
Our smallest lot is a true British icon and one that has just celebrated a birthday, it is the Mini. Silverstone Auctions are offering a delivery mileage Rover Mini from 1989. Presented in Cherry Red, one of the two available colours for this commemorative edition, has yet to be registered. The delivery mileage is 24 miles and has the original book pack, keys and the bill of sale for £6,095. Only 2,000 of the 3,000 versions were produced and at £15,000 to £18,000 this has got be a collector’s car.
Our final two cars for this release are from the Jaguar marque. Two of Britain’s finest designs the E-Type and the Mk2. The E-Type on offer is a 1962 Series 1 3.8 Roadster estimated at £90,000 to £110,000. This is a fantastic car, it has had just three owners with the current for the last 32 years during which time it underwent a ground-up nut and bolt restoration in 1992 along with some mechanical and electrical upgrades as has become the norm for these cars. Now finished in the original colour choice of Carmen Red with a black and red piped interior, the full restoration has been documented with a photographic record. This is one of the finest Series 1 Jaguar E-Types that has been upgraded making it even better than it once was.
Our final car is an original and unrestored 1960 Jaguar Mk2 2.4 automatic. This is one of those classic shapes and one that has survived extremely well without the need for full-on restoration yet still is admired wherever it is displayed. In 2017 it was a finalist in the Lancaster Pride Of Ownership display at the Practical Classics Classic Car Restoration Show and has been centre stage of the JEC display at other events. The V5 shows that this car has had just four owners and in 1973 had 49,815 miles, it now has 53,000, covering just 4,000 miles in the last 46 years. With its original registration number, buff logbook and MOTs it is estimated at £15,000 to £18,000.

The Silverstone Auctions sale will also include 100 lots on each day of automobilia to include wall art, watches, signed prints, tool kits, luggage sets, registration numbers and includes Lot 305 a Jaguar E-type steering wheel at an estimated £300 to £400, Lot 328 a chrome Bentley mascot paperweight at £100 to £120 and Lot 323 a contemporary Aston Martin themed illuminated wall sign at £300 to £400.
The Silverstone Auctions sale takes place on the 9th and 10th November at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Car Show, NEC, Birmingham.
