Pickup Truck Championship

Top ten finish for Team Rockingham

TEAM Rockingham recorded two top ten finishes in front of their home fans at the Northamptonshire circuit last weekend (April 19/20).

Rockingham hosted round two of the 2008 Pickup Truck Championship as part of the British Automobile Racing Club (BARC) meeting, which provided a full weekend of racing action.

Antony Hawkins in his #98 Rockingham liveried truck finished both races in seventh place to earn 340 points. This takes his season tally to 625 and keeps him in ninth place overall.

Gavin Seager made pickup history at Rockingham becoming the first ever driver to win back to back road circuit and oval doubles, while Nic Grindrod was runner-up in both races.

Third place went to Nic’s brother Richard in the first race and Dave Briggs gained his first oval podium in the second outing. Gavin Seager leads the championship on a maximum 800 points.

Antony said: “We were really pleased to get two top ten finishes and pick up more valuable points. It was brilliant to race in front of our home fans as they got behind us.

“We will now be working towards improving on our performance when we return to Rockingham for the next meeting of the championship at the end of May.”

The third round of the championship will again be at Rockingham, when the circuit hosts the British F3 International Series and Avon Tyres British GT Championship race meeting over the Bank Holiday (May 25/26).

In addition to the purpose-built 230bhp pickup trucks racing on the Oval, there will be a full programme of support races plus the opportunity to see the rising stars of the future.

There will be plenty of opportunity to get close to the action with an open paddock and free grandstand seats for everyone, while children aged 15 and under get in free.

Sunday race day adult tickets cost £15 and weekend passes are priced at only £21 when booked in advance.

Advance tickets can be booked via the ticket hotline on 0871 231 0846 or on-line at rockingham.co.uk - the official Rockingham website or you can purchase tickets on the gate from £15.

Antony is sponsored by Rockingham as part of the Northamptonshire circuit’s continued support of both local drivers and the pickup truck racing series.

As part of the package Antony will receive vital track time and will promote the driving days at Rockingham, where members of the public can get behind the wheel of a range of authentic racing cars.
