Whale to make Carrera Cup debut

Nick Whale will make his Porsche Carrera Cup GB debut in rounds five and six of the season at Donington Park on 3/4 May. Whale, the dealer principal at two Porsche Centres, will race with Team RPM for his debut in the championship, before handing the car over to Alex Mortimer for selected other Carrera Cup races.Whale has an extensive motor sport history, having started in speed events and has also raced and rallied with great success. More recently, he has concentrated on historic racing in a McLaren M1 Can-Am car as well as historic rallying in his 1974 Porsche 911RS.Now, Whale will sample the Carrera Cup GB and will race in the pro-am1 category at Donington Park. "I like to challenge myself with doing something different. I'm learning about racing on slicks and getting a big kick out of it, and this fits very well with our business activity," said Whale, who is the dealer principal for Porsche Centre Solihull and Porsche Centre Leicester. It is then expected that Alex Mortimer will campaign the car in other races. "I'm a member of the British Racing Drivers' Club and Alex is one of our rising stars," said Whale. "So I'm trying to back someone who also has the club behind them."Although racing is his prime focus for 2008, Whale is also likely to contest one or two asphalt rallies this season, co-driven by Sally Wood. "I married my navigator last summer, so we're going to do a couple of rallies as well."
