Mexico awarded for the best event ..

in the A1GP season

The A1GP event in Mexico was named the best event of the season in the World Cup of Motorsport. The news was known prior the season finale to be held at Brands Hatch, United Kingdom.

"Our event is awarded as the best A1GP event of the season and we are very proud because they recognised all the efforts made by all of us involved in the race. We are very grateful to the Government of Mexico City, the CONADE, OMDAI-FIA, the Mexican Federation of Motor Sport, Office Max, Blockbuster and Publimetro, because of them it was held this International event," said Julio Jauregui, Executive Vice-president of A1 Team Mexico.

On the other hand, in preparation for the season finale this weekend A1 Team Mexico is not only introducing their driver David Martinez, but also their new Motor Sport Director, Gustavo del Campo.

"I am really excited to be back with A1GP Team Mexico. I've had a great relationship with the team ever since the series was founded and it will be an honor to once again be able to represent my country at the season finale," Martinez said.

And he added: "I've always enjoyed the racing in A1GP. I think it's one of the most exciting in the world of motorsports. I can't wait to get the green flag because I think the event it's going to be a lot of fun not only for the fans, but also for the drivers. Brands Hatch is a historic circuit that unfortunately I've never had the opportunity to race on, but I've spent a lot of time lapping it in the simulator to make sure that when I get there, I can get up to speed right away."

"One of the advantages that I have is that I am still eligible to participate in the rookie sessions, which should help us to be more competitive and give us more time to develop the car. Still, it's going to be tough to challenge the teams and drivers at the front who have been working on their set-ups all year long, but we are going to do everything we can to give Mexico a great result," the young driver said. He last raced in the series in South Africa, 49 races ago and he already finished in the points for A1 Team Mexico.

"We are very pleased to have Martinez driving again for us. He did a good job in the rookie session back in the Mexican event and now racing the full weekend, for sure he will have a good performance," Julio Jauregui said.

"I think that despite not knowing the track, David Martinez has enough experience to get the best of the car from the first practise and he has the advantage of having an extra practise session due to he is still considered a rookie in the series", Gustavo del Campo said.

"It was almost two weeks when I was hired to be involved with the A1 Team Mexico project. I have had conversations with Juan Cortina y Julio Jauregui before the event in Mexico, I was there and I have been following the series since its beginnings. We are heading to the race at Brands Hatch with David Martinez and the same team that has been working all year. I am really excited because this is a project at a worldwide level that is not as complicated as it can be Formula One, but you need to pay more attention to details in order to be able to help the driver. This is the challenge that I was looking for!"

Jauregui also gave comments on del Campo: "Gustavo is a well-experienced man in motor racing and this is the time to commence restructuring the team in preparation for the 2008/09 season. That's why I feel that Gustavo is the right person to serve as Motor Sport Director, since he wants to win a world championship and all in the team have the same goal too."
