Racing Engineering GP2 Monaco Preview

The GP2 series moves this week to that most historic and glamorous scene of the motor sport world, the streets of the Principality of Monaco. Racing Engineering are leading both the team and driver championships, with the latter being headed by the Spanish team’s driver Giorgio Pantano.

The start of the season has fulfilled the expectations that the Sanlucar de Barrameda (Cadiz) based team had in mind after all the preseason work, and the results have arrived quickly. In just two race weekends, Racing Engineering has already achieved a victory and two podiums as well as the enviable record of both the Telefónica and Repsol backed cars having crossed the finishing line in the four races already run: a 100% reliability rate which clearly shows the excellent preparation of the cars by the Spanish team.

For the two Racing Engineering drivers, Giorgio Pantano and Javier Villa, racing through the famous streets of Monaco will be one of the special moments of the year and both are already looking forward to driving their Telefónica and Repsol liveried Dallaras there. Giorgio arrives at Monaco as the series leader after his convincing victory in the first race at Istanbul Park, followed by a podium in the second race that confirmed him as the driver in top form, something he wants to further underline in Monte Carlo. Javi has already scored points in the two previous events and will look for his first podium finish of the year in the Principality, the venue with the most media attention of the whole season.

At Monaco, the GP2 series will have two races for the first time, instead of just one as has been normal since the first visit there three years ago and the schedule for the prestigious and difficult Monegasque urban track will be different from the other GP2 race weekends. Track activity will begin on Thursday, with the free practice and qualifying sessions, while the feature race is due on Friday and the sprint race will be held on Saturday, just after the F1 final qualifying.
