Pace-Setter Idafar On Course ..

Formula Renault BARC Championship title contender Menasheh Idafar prepared perfectly for the fifth round of the season at Oulton Park Island Circuit by lapping fastest of all during unofficial testing at the Cheshire track yesterday, Saturday, 24th May.Ahead of Monday’s race action, the 17-year-old British born Bahraini was in outstanding form and produced a quickest lap of 1m 22.7 seconds to top the unofficial timings taken by his Hillspeed team. The superb performance comes on the back of a similarly strong outing at the Cheshire circuit’s longer International configuration just over a week ago where he was fastest during three of the day’s four sessions in his Gulfol, Gulf Computer Services and Ortolan backed Formula Renault.Commenting on today’s test run, Hillspeed driver coach – and British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) Rising Star – Matt Shawyer said: “Menasheh has driven very well again and although we didn’t have official timing, we’re confident the best time we clocked of 1m 22.7 seconds is very accurate.“As far as we had it on our timings, Menasheh was about three 10ths of a second ahead of his nearest rival which is obviously a great way to prepare for Monday’s race. He’s driving exceptionally well at the minute, it’s been a good start to the season so far and the way today’s test has gone we’re feeling quite confident ahead of Monday’s action.”While track conditions were good on Saturday with some light wind, current forecasts suggest Spring Bank Holiday Monday’s action could be affected by rain.Qualifying ahead of the fifth round of the 2008 Formula Renault BARC Championship is timetabled to take place at 10.25 tomorrow, Monday, 26th May, with the 12-lap race set to follow at approximately 14.40.Provisional 2008 Formula Renault BARC Championship Standings (after Rd4)1st Ollie Hancock, 48pts; 2nd Menasheh Idafar, 42pts; 3rd Johannes Siedlitz, 32pts
