Ginetta Junior Championship

Ginetta Junior Championship front-runner Daniel Lloyd will have the podium in his sights once again this weekend, 31st May/1st June, when the 11th and 12th rounds of the 2008 season take place at one of his most local race tracks, Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire. At the wheel of the British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) Stars of Tomorrow Scholarship Winner entry, the Huddersfield based 16-year-old has been a revelation so far during his debut season of car racing.Achieving his maiden podium in the category during only his eighth race, Daniel is now an excellent third overall in the championship standings having secured top four and top six results at Thruxton just over a week ago with two impressive drives. With Croft being a circuit Daniel does have prior experience of in a Ginetta, albeit not in competitive action, he is greatly looking forward to the weekend’s races which will mark the halfway point of the 2008 campaign.“I have done a couple of driving days at Croft in the Ginetta before so I’m feeling pretty confident we’ll be able to be on the pace quite quickly”, said the Huddersfield Grammar School student, “It’s a good circuit, a proper drivers circuit, so I’m really looking forward to the races which should be a lot of fun.“As always, qualifying will be very important but we seem to be getting on top of that a bit more as the season progresses. If I can start both races from the first couple of rows that would be fantastic but even if we’re fifth or sixth on the grid, I’m confident we’ll be able to race strongly for more podiums.”Rounds 11 and 12 of the 2008 Ginetta Junior Championship will take place less than a week from now at Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire. Following a test session on Friday, 30th May, the competitors will qualify on Saturday, 31st May, at around 13.50 before the first of the weekend’s races at 17.15.Race two is timetabled to commence at approximately 13.50 on Sunday, 1st June, and is set to be screened live on Freeview, digital satellite and cable channel ITV4 as part of the British Touring Car Championship broadcast. This weekend’s event is actually set to be one of the closest Daniel has to a local race meeting all year, even though the circuit at Croft-on-Tees is situated some 90 miles from his home in Scammonden, Huddersfield.Provisional 2008 Ginetta Junior Championship Positions (after Rd10)1st Dino Zamparelli, 320pts; 2nd Thomas Carnaby, 232pts; 3rd Daniel Lloyd, 183pts
