SEAT Cupra Championship

Heading into the halfway point of the 2008 SEAT Cupra Championship season, Andrew Herron has high hopes of making it three podiums from three events having taken a season’s best second place finish last time out at Thruxton.Rounds nine and 10 of the campaign will take place at Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire this weekend, 31st May/1st June, and the 19-year-old from Dromore in Northern Ireland is feeling rightly confident of continued success.Croft, of course, was the scene of Andrew’s first ever win in cars when he led the third round of the 2007 ELF Renault Clio Winter Cup from lights to flag to take a memorable and richly deserved triumph on his way to becoming series Vice-Champion.Currently sixth overall in the SEAT Cupra driver standings, the Brian Herron Contracts supported racer has enjoyed a particularly successful run in his 300bhp car of late. After taking his maiden category podium at Donington Park at the beginning of the month, he went one step higher on the rostrum at Thruxton eight days ago to record a well deserved second place finish – and now the young saloon car sensation is hungry for more as his season gathers momentum.“Croft has been a good track for me in the past and I’m confident we can have some strong results there in the SEAT next weekend”, said Andrew, “Having been on the podium at Donington and Thruxton, and with our qualifying performances having improved too, I’m feeling very positive and can’t wait to get back in the car.”The JHR Developments driver will first take to the track at Croft on Friday, 30th May, for two free practice sessions ahead of qualifying on Saturday, 31st May – the round nine session will commence at 10.20 and round 10 qualifying will get underway at 14.45.Both of the weekend’s races, one of which may well receive live coverage on Freeview, digital satellite and cable channel ITV4, are scheduled to take place on Sunday, 1st June, with round nine timetabled to start at 12.40 and round 10 provisionally expected to begin at approximately 17.15.Provisional 2008 SEAT Cupra Championship Driver Standings (after Rd8)1st Robert Lawson, 139pts; 2nd Martin Byford, 118pts; 6th Andrew Herron, 75pts
