Round 3: Jim Clark National Rally - 24th May

Consolidating their lead in the Richard Egger Insurance MSA Asphalt Rally Championship at the half-way stage, David Kynaston/Andy Russell won the Jim Clark National Rally outright in their Audi A3 Quattro. Indeed, the MSA Asphalt Championship made a clean sweep of the podium places with 2007 winners Andy Fenwick/Lee Tindall (Skoda Octavia WRC) taking the runners-up spot and David Mann/Alun Cook (Subaru Impreza WRC) third.

Held over the closed public roads in the Scottish borders, the Jim Clark is the only UK mainland event of its type and, as such, attracts thousands of spectators. Simon Mauger/Brian Cammack put in a scintillating drive to take fifth overall in their two-wheel drive Ford Escort RS, a result which sees them move into tied second in the points table with defending champion Steve Simpson, whose Hyundai Accent WRC arrived back at the finish in Kelso just four seconds behind the Escort after 100 miles of special stages. Multiple Asphalt Champions John & Caroline Price looked set for a top five finish but their normally ultra-reliable MG Metro 6R4 went out with mechanical trouble just two stages from the end.

The next round of the Richard Egger Insurance MSA Asphalt Rally Championship is the Sligo Stages Rally on 13th July.
