Idafar targets Croft Podiums

Almost seven weeks since the 2008 Formula Renault BARC Championship entered an early summer break, 17-year-old Menasheh Idafar is relishing the prospect of returning to fully competitive action next weekend, 19th/20th July, when the sixth and seventh rounds of the campaign take place at Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire. The British-born Bahraini, who drives for Derbyshire team Hillspeed, heads into the third double-header event of the season at Croft aiming for a return to the podium after a frustrating outing during round five at Oulton Park where contact from rival Ash Davies resulted in a broken front wing and, therefore, compromised Meansheh’s race pace. After claiming his third pole position of the season at the Cheshire venue, Menasheh lost the chance to close the gap to FR2000 Class leader Ollie Hancock through no fault of his own but fought well with an ill-handling car to recover some vital points. Now though, the Gulf Computer Services, Ortolan and Gulfol backed racer is confident next weekend’s action at Croft will bring a return to the podium and the chance of a first ever Formula Renault BARC race victory.“It’s been a long time since the last race at Oulton Park so I can’t wait for next weekend, I’m really looking forward to it “, commented Menasheh, “It’s been a great year so far, the team has done a fantastic job for me, and I’m sure we’ll be able to fight for two podiums at Croft. Who knows, we might even be able to challenge for my first win too!”Heading into the sixth and seventh rounds of the season second in the championship standings, erstwhile series leader Menasheh has enjoyed a highly successful start to, what is, only his second year of single-seater racing with four podiums from the first five rounds and three pole position starts.Enjoying faultless test runs at Croft in April and May, the teenager is feeling rightfully confident ahead of next weekend’s race meeting. Menasheh is also looking forward to his return to the venue where he achieved a brace of podium results in the BARC class of the 2007 Formula Renault UK Winter Championship.Qualifying at Croft Circuit will take place on Saturday, 19th July, at 12.25 with both 14-lap races to follow on Sunday, 20th July. Round six will begin at around 13.15 with round seven scheduled to start at 16.15. Prior to this, unofficially timed pre-event testing will be held on Friday, 18th July. Provisional 2008 Formula Renault BARC Championship Standings (after Rd5)1st Ollie Hancock, 64pts; 2nd Menasheh Idafar, 47pts; 3rd Johannes Seidlitz, 38pts
