SEAT Cupra Championship

Dromore based motor racing star Andrew Herron continues in his quest to secure his first SEAT Cupra Championship race victory next weekend, 26th/27th July, when the 2008 season resumes at Oulton Park Island Circuit in Cheshire. The Brian Herron Contracts backed youngster, who is taking part in only his first season of action in the high-profile SEAT series, has made a number of established saloon car competitors in the championship sit up and take notice of his outstanding pace so far this year, having already achieved four podiums from the 12 races contested.Next weekend’s outing at the picturesque parkland track in the North West of England will see 20-year-old Andrew bidding to make an impact on the four drivers ahead of him in the championship. But at a circuit where he didn’t have the best of outings last year in the ELF Renault Clio Cup, he knows two solid points finishes will be a good return.“Oulton hasn’t been one of my better circuits up to now, I struggled there a bit last year in the Clios but the way I’m going now in the SEAT I don’t see why I can’t turn things around and make it a good circuit for me”, said the Northern Irishman.“I don’t like the track all that much but I’m putting that out of my mind and focusing on doing well. I’m confident in my driving and that’s the approach I’ll take into the weekend, hopefully we’ll end up with some strong results. Even though it’s not one of my best circuits, I’m still looking forward to it and I want to fight for podiums.”With just one season of car racing competition in the ELF Renault Clio Cup under his belt prior to his current campaign in the SEAT Cupra series, Andrew has made excellent progression as he climbs the ladder towards the pinnacle of saloon car racing. While in search of his maiden SEAT win, Andrew is also keen to secure his debut pole position start in the category. The closest he has come so far was during the qualifying session for the sixth round of the campaign at Donington Park in May – missing out on the top spot of the grid by a mere 0.005 seconds!Nonetheless, he went on to achieve his first SEAT podium in that race and since then has been on the podium at each subsequent race meeting – Thruxton, Croft and, last weekend, at Snetterton.“I really want to win my first race in SEAT but I’m not necessarily expecting to be in a position to do that at Oulton”, added Andrew, “The main thing will be to close-up on the four drivers ahead of me in the championship. Hopefully I can come away with two really good results and plenty of points.”Pre-event testing at Oulton Park Island Circuit will take place next Friday, 25th July, with round 13 qualifying set to begin at 09.50 on Saturday, 26th July, and the round 14 session expected to follow at around 14.15. The first SEAT Cupra Championship race of the weekend, round 13, is then timetabled to get underway at 16.45.Round 14 will be staged on Sunday, 27th July, at approximately 15.40 and is set to be screened live on Freeview, digital satellite and cable channel ITV4.
